Hello Everyone, new user here. I'm also new to the 4Runner world and the 4X4 aftermarket world and in ready to dive in head first! I bought my wife an 09' FJ cruiser a few years ago (upon request) and I've been driving a dumpy Range Rover. Fortunately it died on me Christmas eve and I brought home a 2019 TRD Off-Road Premium lastnight!

I'm really wanting to make some simple cosmetic mods to make her my own I just have no idea where to start. I come from a long line of LS motor enthusiasts so any of my vehicular knowledge is based around making horsepower, not modding suspension or crushing rough terrain! Long story short. My biggest setback right now is a 7foot garage. I'd like to start with a lift or level on the 4Runner, but im curious if anyone else has had similar circumstances?

Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin! You'll find plenty of inspiration for ways to spend all of your money here.

Read through the numerous suspension threads for ideas there. Tires are debated regularly. Just buy what looks good and has good user ratings.

You'll be ok with a small lift and tires with a 7' garage door. But, if you add a roof rack, you might have issues.

I think 7' is standard, no?

A 2.5" lift and 33s and a Yak basket fits mine with room to spare... you should be good for any reasonable mods.

Lots of options for lifts and leveling, search around on here!

Congratulations on your new purchase. I have the same size garage door as you. I also have the same 4Runner as you do as well, just one model year older.

a couple of things to consider with Mods to your 4Runner.

    1. make sure the wheels you pick out are hub centric to Toyota. The hub bore of the wheel should be 106.1mm. This helps to eliminate shake.

    2. There are LOTS and LOTS of lift choices. If you have KDSS, consider talking to Mike at Dobinsons. They have specific springs for your application.

    3. Enjoy

Thanks for the welcome! We're from central Minnesota so we're basically neighbors! I have so many ideas I dont even know where to begin. I know theres a "4WheelParts" shop near us, anyone have any objections to them?

Thanks a bunch! I've already told the wife our next house will be built with 9 footers. I'm not trying to leave my vehicles in the snow if they're too tall!

I'm well aware. We looked at a already lifted, used model but she said lets go with less miiles and said "Turn it into what you want it to be". Not sure she understands what that costs but I'm holding her to it :dancingbacon:

Thanks for the insight, as it stands now all factory I'm in love with how it handles and drives. I do worry any suspension mods may make it drive too stiff. I had a buddy with a lifted Avalanche back in the day and the damn thing would slam you into the roof if it ran over a quarter in the street it was so stiff.

Nice! I hope to visit Minnesota one of these years!

I don't know much about 4wheelparts. I haven't heard anything bad about them that I can recall.

If you're looking at suspension, @HeadStrong Off-Road seems to be one of the preferred vendors.

    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/

There are a bunch of good ones. Check the vendor section for options.

They were bought out in 2016 IIRC by the parent company of Polaris Industries. I've seen more complaints on their internet sales C/S since then than before. My only experience with them in years was buying a set of air bags for my Tundra in 2017, which was done in person at my local store. YMMV

I'll keep my wits about me. I'd take it right to their shop rather than purchase online. Not in a position to do the work myself at my current home location.

Thanks! I used to be really into the Pontiac Grand Prix modding community and I know how valuable forums are! That was my motivation to sign up here. Im excited to see all these sick 4Runners and get inspiration for mine! Then eventually the FJ!
