Yep on the way to get a Wrangler, a buddy texts me asking where I was headed. Told him to get a Jeep and he texts back 'NO!!!'
Long story short I'm now owner of 2021 4Runner Off-road Premium.
This pic is already old. It had the Dunlops from the dealer. I've already tried Cooper AT3 LTs (took them back) and currently have BFG TA KO2s (keepers, and will experience 9-10 month of the year usage) and Cooper Snow Claws on the way even as I type (studdable and will be used Dec-March).

Already looking forward to all the knowledge here!

Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin!

Jeeps (the Wrangler) are cool trail toys for sure! I think the 4runner us a much better all around vehicle.

They were on the 4runner when I bought it.
Honestly I knew everything you can know about a Wrangler Willys since that is what I was on the way to buy and hardly anything about
4runners. I walked into the Toyota dealer and said 'show me what you have with good ground clearance'. The salesman gestured out the window
and said any of the 4runners have 9.6 inches straight off the lot. I'd also stopped at the Nissan dealer just min's before and walked away from the Pathfinder
with its paltry 7 inches. I then asked if they could lift it. The salesman said the dealer leveled/lifted them all the time. So when purchasing I added the 3-2 level/lift
option. It was done that day.
After picking up the 4runner I went strait to the tire store, bought Cooper AT3 LTs, returned them the next day; added BFG KO2 and am happy with them for 9 months
of the year driving. Cooper Snow Claws are en route even as I type. They'll be studded and used Dec-March.
I live in the southern Appalachians, but at 4200 feet. We get frequent snow and average 6-10 inches for each snow fall.
Here's two shots from this morning, front yard and backyard-

Thanks TBG (thatbassguy :) My heart said Wrangler but after listening to my buddy preach about repairs and reliability I went
    with my brain :)
Plus I'm old, getting ready to retire in 65 days and want to minimize headaches.
I even paid up for a 11 year 150,000 mile warranty bumper to bumper at the dealer.
It's also one reason I did the leveling/lift 3-2 at the dealer since it too was covered under their warranty....or so I'm told, we all
know how dealers treat their warranties ha!

I can't speak for the 5th gen 4runner, yet. But, my '03 was running strong at 257K miles when I traded it in despite a lack of maintenance. I was a crummy car owner in my younger days. that thing just kept going!

TBG I'll tell you my benchmark. I have a 1997 Nissan Hardbody pickup. 23 years old and like you it was treated with less than stellar maintenance for years, yet it keeps running. It's my daily driver when I'm off (I work every other week) and there is no snow....the Nissan sucks in the snow :( So it will get to sit until April and the 4runner will have to cart me around until the snow season is over.
We've had another benchmark for snow performance, a Forester. Crazy crazy good in the snow UNTIL it gets over 8+ inches. It's just not a great snowplow!

Welcome @MedicineMan4040, nice ride, and great story. Coming from 13+ Jeeps over the years, I can vouch for the 4R being the vastly superior overall vehicle, congratulations.

Just curious - what lift did the dealer put on?

Thank your friend from saving you from that Fiat you wanted. I love jeeps but Fiat flat out scared it for life. I wish they would sell and a US company saves the name and brings back a true Jeep!

Thanks GL. Remember I'm totally a Toyota noob. My best guess is this one or something very very similar.
    https://www.readylift.com/3-f-2-r-sst-lift-kit-toyota-4runner-fj-cruiser-2003-2018-1.html
I love the overall height and level stance. To my eye it looks good with the KO2. We put 275/70-17s on. I think I could have gone
    a wee bit bigger (taller).

I'm going back to the dealer next Wednesday for a few more things I bought nearing the end of the purchasing process (a bigger skid-plate, window tint, some kind of protective vinyl wrap on the hood and mirrors) and can ask about the exact one when there....if I can remember too :)

He probably did me another favor too. With the jeep I would have gone down a constant non-stop modding frenzy of bumpers and suspensions/wait you can do that with the 4runner too haha!
I've already ordered the Bajarack Utility mesh with sunroof cut out. I should stop looking at aluminum bumpers for the 4runner ;)

I've read several accounts of dealers putting ReadyLift on new 4Rs, so you're probably right. Thanks

I guess that kinda suggests Toyota approval of the combo. Not a bad thing.

    Congratulations on your new ride..

Since my whole family drive 4runners I'm trying hard to add a Wrangler Rubicon 4 door to my garage. Yes I would not have it as my daily driver. If newer 4runners had solid axles like the Land Cruiser 70 I would not have to go this route. The use case for the Wrangler is very thin, its only for the trails. Very hard to convince my better half. Since this is a 4runner forum no point of going to details about my test drive.

Back at you! I've always had white vehicles...just seem to look clean even when they're not. Where I live...1.5 mile gravel driveway it certainly helps. Mine will look a bit different I hope by March. The Bajarack is supposed to ship mid-February. That way they won't confuse you for me ;)

I hear ya! Our last 4-5 vehicles have been white, we ran through a lot of colors in the past, but like you said "just seem to look clean even when they're not."

I was going to go white on my 4Runner but the dealership didn’t have any in stock when I bought. So I went with a dark metallic gray and I think it looks pretty nice with the black accessories. Here is a picture of it after I went out and got in the dirt on a slightly rainy day here in Arizona.

Yeah it'd be a boring world if all we had were white trucks.
Really like your rack. Gobi? Bajarack? I cant tell but they do look similar.
I thought about going Gobi but the wait times seemed excessive and I read that
Bajarack has taken care of their early on rust issues....we'll see about that.

It is a GOBI rack. Bought it off a guy on OfferUp for around $900 or something. He had it for 3 weeks or so and went through trying to sell his 4Runner and parting out his accessories. He went through 9 months of waiting and I got a brand new rack. Then on top of it he helped me install it. I feel like that was a win win...

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
You have good impulses. The 4Runner will probably outlive you.

I got a similar warranty. I wonder if I'm ever going to use it. Sometimes I think about cashing it out and spending the money on mods.
