Hey y'all! I just purchased a 1996 4WD Limited 4Runner with 235,000 miles, and I got it for $2400...which means it wasn't in fantastic shape. I already have a laundry list of things to fix but the immediate ones are:

-Power steering pump, steering pulley and belt (no power steering is fun)
    -Front inner tie rods
    -Leaking valve covers
    -Broken headlights
-Radiator (cracked but no pink milkshake!)
-Sunroof is not moving and is leaking (caused mold to the headliner)

Plus all the regular maintenance things that hadn't been done to it for ages, like a differential fluid drain and flush, spark plugs, MAF sensor, shocks and struts, etc, etc, etc. I'm not a gearhead and I have little to no experience with fixing cars, but I'm diving in and attempting to do a lot of that myself to save money using these forums and Youtube. It's definitely a project car but I'm hoping I can make it last to 300k+!

I'm looking forward to being a part of the community! The threads here have already been helpful, hopefully I can eventually contribute. If any of y'all have any tips for the sunroof, I would appreciate it! It's probably the thing I am dreading fixing the most.PXL_20201212_164724844.jpg

Welcome to the forum David. I am also a relatively new member to the forum and this is my first post/reply ever. I too am not blessed with any mechanical attitude so I had to find a good mechanic for my 99 4Runner. Fortunately, I have and he replaced my leaky valve covers for me at a reasonable price. I had him replace my coils, spark plugs and spark plug wires at the same time (helleva leak). I also had him do an LOF as well. My 4Runner runs great! Now it is almost time to replace the clutch...goody! ;) Enjoy your new (to you) 4Runner!

PS: I too am looking to fix my leaky sunroof; which is also jammed shut. Ah, the never-ending story on bargain 4Runners...
