Anyone else have this problem with their limiteds? Where the lower bumper meets the top under the head light housing keeps popping out.
Push in one side and the other pops out. Had it in the dealership for its first service and pointed it out. They told me it was fixed. Drive it home and it is still popping out and won’t start fastened.

Yup, my 2019 does the same thing. I first noticed it around 800 miles and it is only on the driver side *knock on wood*. I forgot to mention at the first service but did at the second. I have almost 8k miles now and had my 4R for just over a year. The dealer worked out where I would drop by the body shop to have them take a look and the shop indicated that it's not uncommon. After talking with the body tech I was convinced I'd leave it alone, although Toyota agreed to cover the body shop costs.

Basically the tech indicated he has seen it with 5th gen 4Rs and 3rd gen Tacomas and had even showed me a Tacoma they had there with it. As I understand it, there are an insufficient amount of attachment points (clips) for the bumper cover to hold it to the body securely. The tech said he is more than willing to "try" to fix it but there is no guarantee he could fix it or that the manipulation wouldn't cause the other side to pop out. I figured that although I don't care for it having that gap I understand his explanation and I'd rather not have anyone go in there manipulating things that may end up causing other issues and wasting more time.

Well, I got note of explanation from you than I did my body shop! Thank you. I agree I don’t want any manipulation. I’ll live with as well, until I decide to make this Nighshade a TRD OffRoad... haha wonder if anyone has ever put the TRD front bumper on a Limited?

Thank you, I'd appreciate that! My biggest problem so far has been finding the correct part for the new front bumper. Whether TRD OF or TRD Pro.. most of my searches come up short of finding anything that works. When I mentioned it to my local shop/dealer they just said, why did you buy a TRD... simple answer, I wanted the Nightshade..

I have the same issue on my drivers side as well. Pop it in, drive for a few miles, pops back out. Very annoying but learned to live with it.

EDIT: I meant passenger side, not drivers side

I think most of these bumper issues may be related to the bumper installation. The back of the bumper has the square guides which secure into the bracket under the headlights. Often times, you just need to reseat the bumper correctly into this bracket.

Did you completely remove the bumper then reseated ?

I’ve done it several times. Probably more than 10 times. I had to, when I needed to adjust the HID bulbs in my AlphaRex PRO headlights. These aftermarket headlights require to remove the bumper to get the headlight assemblies out just to replace or adjust the bulbs. Yes it sucks.

the first time I seated my TRD bumper, I noticed the gaps like the next day after driving around. I removed the bumper and reseated. But I did it at the exact time, meaning the left and right sided needed to be seated simultaneously in order for me to get a good guide pin seating under the head lights.

If I did it one side at a time, I could not get the guide tabs seated correctly.

    Tinted windows. USR tail lights.
Had the issue on my 2016 LE and the dealership took it to the body shop they used and fixed it. Stated it was common and never had another issue. Don’t have the problem on my 2019 NS...yet anyway.

Stopped at my local dealer today to check on the TRD front end.. not a lot of luck. First off, they couldn't find a part number for a front bumper. My question was, how does someone with a TRD OF buy a new bumper when they have an accident?? (hard to believe a toyota dealer couldn't find a part number)

Next, I called a dealership in the neighboring state. They seemed to find what I need, quoted me $1626.03 for all the required parts needed to change the front bumper.

Does that seem about right?? Would you be able to provide part numbers for the front bumper build?? I'd greatly appreciate it!

$1600 sounds okay, but what does it include ? I did the bumper swap as well as the liner swap. Here’s a pic of how my truck looks today :)

take a look at this spreadsheet and let me know if you have any questions.

@Daytonaviolet Thanks for that spreadsheet! I assume it included everything needed.. the parts guy rambled off all the pricing.. I'd much rather do this all myself and not pay the dealership for the install. Who would have thought a Toyota dealer would have troubles ordering a bumper? :notsure:

It’s because they are not accustomed to selling bumpers.. lol.. they are clueless when it comes to retrofitting.

I purchased my new items locally but I ordered online and did local pickup. Items cost more if you walk in and request parts on the counter vs ordering online and doing local pickup.

I tried ordering online out of state, prices were cheaper and with not taxes. But shipping ate away of the cost savings.

After a while, the Toyota parts guy knew me personally and eventually offered me one line pricing at the counter. They will thrilled with the transformation :)

UPDATE!!! Just received a call from the local dealer. They remembered my complaint from back in April and called to let me know that there is a service bulletin for replacing the clips with an updated p/n, fixing the gap issue. I'm scheduled to get mine done on Dec 1. Found the TSB online at NHTSA: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10176697-9999.pdf

Just my luck. I have a 2013....not covered. Had the same thing happen on our 2003 Honda Odyssey as well. Transmission went out and the class action suit covered all years from 2004 on. I'm always a day late and a dollar short! :(

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
All the fix is, is Velcro tape. Pretty sure you could do that yourself.

Just wanted to report back. Just had the work done and I am extremely pleased. As the bulletin indicates, both sides were done although I only had issue on one side (drivers side). Before and after pics included for comparison.

It's the picture. After I posted I was thinking it would have been best to send after pics with better lighting but that's all I had and wanted to share the results.
