I’m up for cliffs insane terrain in Illinois. It’s the only decent place I’ve found. It is fun, no doubt.

Not a direct answer but I looked the other day.
The Loess hills are long by definition but this lookout is open 24 hrs. I haven't been that far north into Iowa (off interstate). Now I want to go soon!

I was there about 10 years ago and (at the time) if you didn't have 40" tires it was not fun! All the big boys left tire ruts and my pee wee 33's on a jeep left me spinning all 4 beached on the skid plates... spent most the day winching myself out

I’m not 100% sure. I’ve only seen some pix. I’d assume it’s probably gravel / level B roads.

    FYI:

A handful if people from Tacomaworld are meeting in Lansing, IA on April 10th around 9-10AM and running the T.W.A.T down to Potosi, WI. We'll have a soda or beer at Potosi Brewery and BS for awhile to cap off the day.

Let me know if anyone is interested!

I checked out the tacomaworld thread a while back...anybody still thinking of camping at wyalusing? My understanding was they arent taking reservations yet, but that it’s first come first served?

I got next week off from work and might start figuring out a camping setup for the 4runner.

@McSpazatron , what kind of camping setup are you thinking about doing?

Off the top of my head, Im thinking a thin platform on the 60% side to make a flat surface for a twin sized air mattress (like yours, just not as tall). I’d take out the seat bottom out so the platform can go over the footwell so I can stretch out. I’d make it so the side over the seat-back is removable when not in use. Not sure if a twin size will fit though, but that’s the idea.

My ideas generally reach their full potential after looking at something, motionlessly, for several hours with beer in hand, so I might come up with something better, like a double-decker couch or something, but I should probably stick with something simple.

Sounds cool! I just cut mine down so I could fit the spare next to it. I like the idea of removing back seats eventually and really customizing it. Everything I do now is designed to be temporary and removable.

I also do my best thinking with a beer in hand.

Yeah, Im thinking along the same lines. Cant justify too much being permanent. It’s still a daily driver, and has to pull family duties occasionally, so it has to remain multipurpose and not annoying for other passengers.

i just bought some malone roof cross rails for my kayak, but my head is filled with ideas for welding up a removable roof platform that uses the stock rails. Something out of 1x1 steel square tube, or along those lines.

And ideas for mounting up my antique CB...

And ideas for a simple drawer system...

What cross bars did you get? I sold my basket last year and am looking to build something as well. But, a good set of cross bars could be nice in the meantime. I have the OEM ones, but they're so tight to the roof.

I got the malone aero2 bars. They look solid and incredibly well priced compared to yakima. The mounts look better than the 1000 dollar rhino rack platform mounts. You can also fit attachments with t bolts in the main channel. I got them at Sherpers in stock for 160 bucks.
We will see how they hold up with the kayak, but I anticipate it will be plenty fine

i might chop a few inches off the width...not sure yet

Also I just noticed you are in greendale, which is just a hoot and a holler away from me. I might call for a radio check later on today

Cool. Let me know what your ETA (to Wyalusing) is in the morning. I was thinking of doing some exploring after getting sites and settling in. I'd like to be there when you arrive, though.

I should be home around 5pm this evening if you want to test your radio out.

I lost the little nubby metal tip off the top of my cb antenna. Anybody think that will matter? Think it fell off last time it snagged a tree

What kind of antenna is it? I have a Firestik and the tip is used for tuning. If anything, you might want to snag a cheapie to bring along just in case.

We wouldn't mind at all! I'm still new myself. Let me know if you're going to make it in th morning. Also, let me know if you want to test radios later.

Pics below. Second pic shows allen screw. Perhaps to tune antenna?

If push comes to shove, any brick and mortars still sell CB antennas?

I think you might be right about the Allen screw.

Your best bet might be a truck stop if you want to pick up a spare antenna.
