    Hey,

I’m looking for a 4runner to start my overlanding journey with the war department and doggo. Is this rust too bad even though this 4runner has low miles? Unfortunately I live in the Northeast and it’s difficult to find anything without a lot of rust. Also, I think there is a valve cover gasket leak but I don’t know this engine. I took a lot of pictures and didn’t get a chance to test drive it yet due to me arriving at the used car lot late.

    Details:
    2005 Sport Edition
    4.0L
    63,401 miles
    Asking price is $11,995

    Thanks.

Eek! That body mount looks really bad. I would try to find something cleaner, if possible.

wow...I used to live about half mile from the Gulf of Mexico and never had a vehicle with that level of rust on the frame. There's plenty of older Runners out there...I'd pass.

Not recommended to purchase. When rust is only surface rust, this can be treated and stop spreading by proper corrosion protection treatment. Once it is multiple layer like what I see here, you need to replace this section. Especially doing any off roading and put this vehicle to stress, this section may just break. I was with corrosion protection manufacture rep for northeast territory. I do not recommend to purchase this vehicle. Remember, it is your life on this.

I live in Florida. That 4Runner looks like it drove through salt water. I would pass for sure.

If you live in the NE and that vehicles history is from up there, in addition to rough winters maybe it had a long salt bath from one of the hurricanes and flooding a few years back.

Hell no! Especially not for that price. Low miles or no, it's 15 years old. Actually, on an older vehicle like that, such low mileage is a turn off for me. Means it was either regularly driven on very short trips, or sat for long periods of time. Neither are great for a vehicle. Plus it's a Toyota, haha. These go for 300k no problem, so there's less reason to pay that much of a premium for low mileage.

I'm in the Northeast too, so I feel your pain as far as finding a nice vehicle. But definitely don't pay 12k for that 5k vehicle. For 12k you could find a nice 80 or 100 series Landcruiser / LX (probably).

And man, if that's what rusty 4Runners are going for, I really need to list mine haha.

4Runners used on any area that uses salt on the roads frequently can/will probably look like this. I worked all over the country and the NE and northern mid-west have to be the worse.
