You can get an aftermarket "TRD Pro grill" that has it say "toyota" on the grill on various sites. It is a fairly simple install. If you want the OEM TRD Pro Grill you can get it from the dealership, but it cost ~$250-$300 more than the aftermarket version.

When choosing a TRD OR or TRD ORP dont forget you have to decide if you want KDSS or not too!

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
I chose the OR over the ORP because the OR doesn't have a sunroof.
I'm 6'4 and like the additional headroom that the OR has.

Heated seats might be nice to have in the winter though.

I also wanted the electronic locking rear differential.

Yes that’s right mac1usa, equal power to each wheel. It’s a great feature when your wheels are submerged on a steep boat ramp, lol. I know the area you’re in, and the great boating and fishing you guys have in the Detroit area. It’s a great playground, those beautiful sweetwater seas.

And whether you want the slide-out cargo tray! If you can even find one that comes with it, that is!

PS, OP mentioned the loss of height in the cargo area from the third row configuration. The slide-out tray steals about 2-3 inches, vs 4-5 for the third row. But on the flip side it creates a completely level load floor.

Thanks guys--yes on the KDSS I heard that its good on and offroad but read one article saying that it is very expensive to fix.

Are there that many benefits w/KDSS if I am not off roading? I have not even been able to find a vehicle with KDSS to test drive. The only models with it if you can find one is the Pro model and most dealers will only let you drive it on the lot; not even a regular test drive.

I think I would go with the ORP and that locking rear diff for sure. I wil most likely not be driving it in the winter so while it has heated seats I doubt they will get much use.

I am starting to get excited about this.

TRD Pros do not have KDSS, KDSS is only offered on the TRD OR, TRD ORP and Venture. Correct me if I am wrong.

    Old Toyota--

Yes I go over the Canadian side of Lake Erie quite a bit to walleye fish and the Michigan side. Sadly with Covid no fishing in Canada this year but I am hopeful now for next year. We are very lucky with some of the worlds best walleye fishing. It is a lot of fun and great way to spend time with my Dad which I never take for granted.

Goicoun--you might be correct I may have mis-spoken in regard to KDSS. I have looked at so many options and models I might have misstated this.

Right, it’s XREAS that’s real expensive to replace. And that comes only on the Limited.

One of the main reasons people like KDSS is that it reduces body roll in everyday driving, while allowing more wheel articulation in off road situations. And I’m not aware of reports about it being very expensive to fix. Just reports that it can be limiting if you want to lift your truck a lot, which is something you prob have no reason to do anyway.

Yeah I will most likely not lift it.

I wish they put a better coat of paint or some type of coating on the trailer hitches. Gosh I was looking at a one or two year old 4Runner in the parking lot this morning and the trailer hitch was all rusted. Gosh it looked awful--here is something I did not think of till today. I wonder if I could spay and undercoating on it or something. Why would they not put something better on this?

Yes, I live in snow belt in a small town just outside the Greater Toronto Area and we get a lot of snow and salt for almost 5 months of the year. Rustproofing is definitely something to consider. Also, those rusty trailer hitches - I see them too. There’s no need for that! A little bit of sandpaper and paint helps maintain surfaces like that. It’s just some people don’t care. It’s easy to do and I find it quite enjoyable to maintain a machine properly.
I’m a KDSS adherent, since getting it on my ORP. They say it gives better articulation off road, which I’ve never noticed but it’s on road where I really feel it. At high speeds and on big roads it makes quite a difference to stability and body roll.

^Agreed. I'm 5'12" and the sunroof makes the headroom feel noticeably less.

Unlike everyone else I actually specifically chose the OR because I can't stand the feeling of your skin getting stuck on or sweating on leather/softex in the summer.

Tailsandtrails knows about heat, being in Austin. Much more so than I experience in Canada. However, I find softex pretty comfortable in the heat. Much better than leather.

In the Limited the leather comes with ventilated seats. So, nice.

    Just FYI

Yes, you know I initially thought about getting the Limited model but then though gosh, I am only in 40's w/no family and maybe I should still have something more sporty. Plus I thought the more options I get, the more stuff that can break over the many years I plan to own it.

I really like the look of the ORP with the pro grill that says "TOYOTA". From a few calls I made no dealers will change it out around here though; sounds like only down south will they do it. I wish I could custom order a silver ORP with the black grill and Venture wheels, after looking at tons of pictures I think that would look really sharp

You can order a silver ORP, and buy the wheels and grill parts from the parts department. Work free installation in as a part of the deal.

I’m super glad I got the Limited. Not just all the goodies, which are really nice, but also I’m very happy to have full time 4WD. That said, it totally looks like something for an old person or soccer mom.

Stupid fake hood scoop aside, the OR models sure look cooler.

That's what I thought but so far two dealers told me I would have to go to a collision shop and pay separately to put in a black grill. That does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling especially given a new model has the sensors in the grill. For myself personally I just think the black wheels on a silver vehicle look too dark, so I was thinking of how to combine the two. I would think silver/or red with the black grill and venture wheels would look fairly sweet. Maybe I am crazy and overthinking all this but why not if you plan to get a new ride and keep for a long time. Its been fun looking at various combos and its more unique.

You might find a member in here willing to help you out with installing a grill, it’s not a big deal. Just a nice Saturday morning project with a cup of good coffee going on the side. Once you get your 4 Runner, just post a notice on here, and see if you can hook something up. If you’re near a major centre it shouldn’t be a problem. I’m in Canada, so I’m guessing I’m a little far away, and the border is closed anyway. Lol. But otherwise I’d give you a hand. I never switched mine, but I put a Pro grill on my previous Tacoma, and I’ve had the grill assembly off my 4 Runner when I installed a front bumper and a winch. It seems like a lot but it’s easy.

You are overthinking it. Sensors are not involved. It takes 30mins-hour max, and you don't need any special tools.
Just get a Venture and add the grill. You'll have the blackout parts and the TRD wheels that you like, and sell the Yakima Rack if you don't want it.

Is the Off Road Premium really not offered with a moon roof?

Yes the ORP has an option for a moonroof. It is a definite option though. Thanks for the tips guys. I have some thinking to do.

Thanks for the idea also Old Toyota guy. If the border opened up I’d say come down and we’ll go walleye fishing. It’s been a bummer not being able to even enter Canadian waters this year. Many of my favorite fishing holes are over there :)

    Mac,
I'm with you 100% on the border opening. We did NOT get our annual Canadian fishing trip this year and that majorly sucks! Some of my favorite fishing holes are in Canada as well, I'm thinking we team up with Oldtoyotaguy and get those Walleyes! BTW, how's the decision making process going?

Just got the ORP after testing a SR5 Premium on a road trip in Montana last week. Was really impressed with how well the SR5 handled and feel like it would do suffice for what you need. I went ORP because I plan to do a decent bit of off-road in Montana but would have gone SR5 otherwise. As for the softex, I really like it (though haven't driven it in the heat). Very comfortable and seemed very durable and low maintenance.
