    Check Engine Light (On; Solid)
    Traction Icon (On; Solid)
    VSC Off (Flashing)

    Bad gas cap.

    Step 1
    1. Drove to Autozone
    2. Borrowed their scan tool
    3. Put key in ignition and turned to ACC
    4. Plugged scantool into OBD port and let it scan
    5. When it says 'donE', I unplugged
    6. Took scan tool back into Autozone for worker to readout code
    7. Bad gas cap
    Step 2
    1. Drove to Toyota dealership
    2. Bought new cap for $23+tax (in CA)
    3. Removed old cap
    4. Installed new cap
    Dashboard lights are still on

    Step 3
    1. Disconnect battery
    2. Reconnect battery
    Dashboard lights off

This is the second time I've replaced my gas cap, so I'm on my third gas cap. However, lights did not go off, even after driving almost 1000 miles. So I disconnected the battery. This also reset my seatbelt warning noise back to default (On), so I had to turn that off again.

For anyone wondering how to off the seat belt alarm in 4th gen, it's pretty simple.

This exact condition appeared today on my 2008 4Runner Sport V8. After doing a lot of searching, a Toyota guy suggested doing the easiest thing first. Test your gas cap by tightening to one click, then untighten. If it easily untightens then it is prolly a bad cap. I tried this and the untighting was weak so it kind of points to me needing a new gas cap. He noted that it may take a little time before the lights go out so suggested I drive the car for several days or a week to see if the lights go out before going to the next step.

So in your case, I would have to ask, did you allow some time or did you immediately replace the cap?

Ok so apparently you didn't read my initial post. Lol

Drove 600 miles in last few days and lights are still on. Will be resetting the lights by disconnecting the car battery and see if they come back on.

This is the post I read so no, I did not see a reference to 600 miles nor how long you waited between gas caps. Never-the-less, I hope the reset fixes the problem.

Wanted to do a follow-up. I hooked up my OBDII scanner and got a P0456 code - Evaporator Emission System leak (very small leak). I installed an OEM gas cap and filled the tank once. My friend told me it took 3 fuel-ups for the lights to go out for him so I will report back when the lights go out, or what I end up trying next ;).

r32, did the car batt reset work?

At the risk of chatting with myself I promised a Follow-up:D. I decided to clear the code using the OBDII scanner. Ever since, no lights so guess a simple gas cap change fixed the problem.

    Updated original post.

Driving almost 1000 miles and 3 full tanks of gas, lights were still on.

Disconnected battery and lights went off.

Yeah, I tried doing a reset using the odometer/ignition method but it would not reset. Luckily, I had a code scanner and that reset worked. Probably the same as disconnecting the batt. Glad it worked out for us both
