So my stock tires on my SR5 are finally giving out on me. Which means.. it’s time to get new tires so what’s everyone running on their rigs? Pics as well would be even better! Thanks in advance.

What’s the largest size tire I can run on a stock 4Runner?

What are you looking for in a tire? There are tons of good options right now. Are you mostly highway? Some off-road? Mostly off-road?

I am mostly highway, but off-road as much as I can. Toyo AT3 is good for me so far.

For no off-road I would look at something like a Michelin LTX or something similar.

Tell us how you use your 4runner. :)

    Pic of the AT3's...

I think we’re in the same boat when it comes to our daily uses for our rigs and tires. I know we’ve spoken before about the Toyos and I still like them too but part of me also wants something a little more aggressive(cliche I know) so with that being said, the wildpeaks and Cooper Evo MTs are the ones I’m currently looking into. Also looking to stay stock size unless I find an outrageous deal on 275s but with a baby on the way this is my main focus on upgrading my rig lol

Michelin Defender. If you want more aggressive get the AT. Both versions maintain their traction throughout the life of the tire, instead of degrading halfway through. And they’re quiet. And they last a loooong time.

Unless you need something that’s gonna rub up against rocks, I don’t think you can get a better tire.

The Wildpeaks have a more aggressive sidewall, but a slightly less aggressive tread than the AT3. I know a ton of people using them with almost nothing but praise. For mostly highway, this is probably the better choice of the 2.

The Coopers look excellent. But, I wouldn't expect them to do as well in snow as the Wildpeaks. And, they'll be louder. There's a thread here somewhere about them.

Wildpeaks for me. Super smooth on the road and impressive in snow, ice, rain and mud. 61166C33-DCBE-4AB6-9A03-5EF16B243DAE.jpg

For all those concerned, ended up getting 285/70/17 Cooper Evolution MTs! Very happy with this purchase so far and cannot wait to hit the trails and try these bad boys out!

My son-in-law has a land cruiser and another land cruiser from Australia. Both have Goodrich AT KO2. My son put a set on his jeep. If you drive on paved road and highways much, these tires are wonderful on paved roads. I currently have Nitto Terra-Grapplers, which came stock on my 4R Off-Road w/ Predator package. While the tires are quite good off-road, they are a bit noisy and rough of paved roads. Since most of my off-road travels are on forestry roads and trails, and not much heavy mud, I will be looking at the Goodrich KO2s next time for a better road ride.

Those are manly tires. Amazing how just going to a more aggressive tread totally changes the personality of a vehicle.

I love my Coopers so far...

Quick update: Took these tires on the trails today. Mainly rocky terrain with some mud and pretty deep ruts in some parts. Tires handled everything with ease. What I’m mostly impressed about is the grip on these tires. As seen in my picture, that was a part of the trail that I was previously unable to get to because of my stock tires. But with these Cooper MTs, I was able to grip and climb up this part of the trail no problem. I think next to test out will be some sand!

I would not purchase mud tires if snow traction was a priority. Mud tires in general tend to be bad in packed snow. Plus, those have almost no siping.

Your best bet, aside from a true winter tire, is a 3 peak snow rated AT. Even these aren't created equal, so check user ratings.

I use Falken Wildpeaks for on road and KO2 for off-road. Wildpeaks are very soft on road vs KO2. I tried to compare both on my driveway on a snowy day and did not find any difference. Need to try on a different day with more ice and see. My Wildpeaks have about 3k miles and KO2 have 15k miles since we use TRD for all our trips vs Limited is a mall crawler.
