New member. Just bought an 05 limited V8 4wd with 135k miles. Needs a little TLC to start. Over the next year or so will be mild mods. Clean things up a bit and then it’ll be downhill from there. Not completely new to this scene anyway. Been a member of tacomaworld for about 6 years and decided it was time to have a debt free vehicle. Thanks for stopping by. Thanks. Yeah I wasn’t sure what to think of the color when I first found it but it’s already growing on me, and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of them out there. My first choice would have been the red salsa pearl but it didn’t work out that way.

Debt free is the way to go. Vehicles are expensive enough without paying interest as well. I’ve owned a lot of older vehicles over the years to abide by that philosophy. Then I figured I’d just save my money, and benefit not only from a cash deal but a new vehicle. But hey, @BottomDwellingT4rLife , that 4 Runner looks beautiful. Up here in Canada where rust never sleeps, you can’t find clean vehicles like that very easily.

I agree. Unfortunately my saved money will probably be dumped into the truck still for a little while but you only live once lol. And yeah luckily I found one with very little rust as far as I could tell. Need some wire wheel in some areas but I won’t really know till I get it up on the ramps. That’s next weeks project. This week was polishing the headlights and fixing that stupid blown subwoofer. Probably will tint the front 2 windows this week as well. Oh and might go pick up some 5th gen sr5 wheels tomorrow to make me feel better about going to an older vehicle.

So here are some pics to go along with the build. I’ll try to go in order for the past couple weeks.

I wasn’t a total fan of the 03-05 tail lights so I ordered some from the 06-09 models off of carports.com. Install was simple, just plug and play.
    old:AAEF6799-D10B-43F6-81F5-8C265F8292CA.jpg
    New:02C7B885-2FA1-469E-AC0F-76F8BB26D70E.jpg

A couple days later I purchased some tint from a local tint shop since It’s hard to come by decent ceramic film without buying a huge roll. I did the front 2 windows with 20%. I will go back in the future and add 50% to the existing rear stock window tint for heat protection and to make it a tad bit darker on the side windows. B84E74D8-A9FE-4EED-9420-5C9810308636.jpg

next up I purchased some front shocks and coils off of 2019 Tacoma. I had to get rid of this XREAS system. The rear of my 4runner has the air ride leveling system which for now will work to my advantage. I Installed the 5th gen taco shocks and coils on the front with no spacers. This gave me about 2 1/4 inch lift in the front after it settled. For the rear I was going to go with 5100s but everyone was out of stock due to some back order going on at Bilstein. Wheelers recommended the eibachs which were comparable so I went with those. Eibachs went in and the rear air suspension is adjustable just a little up or down from the factory setting so I bumped that up as far as it would go.

From there I knew I needed to do some trimming before putting on bigger tires so I started with tucking and trimming the front plastics and removing the front mud flaps and on the wheels and tires went

to make a long story short I’ve had it aligned and still have a little bit of rubbing. May have to do a BMC as well. While I was under there I realized my breaks were shot,so I ordered now rotors and pads for rock auto along with a couple of new CV boot kits from Toyota. I’ll be tackling that tomorrow.

so as of now I’m just doing cosmetic finishes. Shampoo the carpets I already added weather tech floor liners and AVS vent visors on the windows. Need to do minor Paint correction and touch up. I also did plastidip the badges and had the front windshield tinted just a little
So here’s where we are at :E28066B6-9243-4850-BF95-17017F28E1D5.jpgI bought some headlights that I’m picking up this week and will install them when I have time

So getting into the pads and rotors when I was rebooting and regreasing the cv axles, I found out that I had a stuck piston on both of my front calipers. (I don’t recommend doing a rebuild of cv axles on a time constraint and with cheap tools to boot.)

So in went the new pretty calipers, Wagner rotors, and pads. Along with fresh grease and boots, and some Lucas synthetic diff fluid.

Edit: I did delete the Exhaust resonator and added a 45 for a tailpipe behind the tire, as well as removed the charcoal filter from the intake this past weekend.

Well, I bought some new tires. I will run these as just a wheeling set until I get regeared. Then they will Probably stay on full time. I have to talk to ECGS about my options and cost so that will be a far future plan. For now I’ll run these just on weekend camping/off-roading trips. And my 285s will stay on as my daily. Need a couple months to order a second set of wheels to mount these on. CD321F66-CB61-4425-A5D6-6D525ED1A053.jpg A42D1D95-4294-4BC2-BC0D-11D532FB956E.jpg against my 285s

First real trail ride today. Definitely need more clearance, armor, and to get them 35s on. Good thing I have some more suspension parts in the garage that will go on this week ;)

did a little bit of windrock and explored nemos tunnel area. It was a good day

Damn, I didn’t realize that I haven’t posted in a while. So just to sum up where I’m at now. I added 1/2 spacers to the front till I start getting bumpers made up. Trashed the old air ride rear and put some super flex coils in. I received my new bushings for my SPC UCAs so now I can finally install those and get my caster pushed forward enough for the 35s. I also bought a welder a couple months ago and just aquired gas for it this week. So now I’m able to start cutting body mounts and welding bumpers. And the best part comes next.

New wheels for the 35s are here finally. And thanks to Dustin @fnwheels for taking care of me for the 3rd time

Nice wheel choice. Look forward to seeing the 35s. A tip for the headlights. Run a bead of RTV around where the lenses meet the headlight housing. Also, once you get the PITA bottom bolt out do not bother re-installing it. It isn't needed.

Still gotta make a little more clearance tomorrow to get it road worthy. Rubbing the cab mount and pinch weld like a champ. 35x10.50/17. Wheels are 17x8 -10 offset 4.1 BS

Did some wheeling this weekend . Had a blast. Almost rolled a couple times, almost broke a bunch of stuff. But walked away with only minor bruises and scratches. Left the 33s on for this one until I get a beefier rear axle.

I know that @newlife is in Tennessee and I am not far from East Tennessee. It would be cool to get a group ride going.

Well, I bit the bullet and didn’t stay as cheap as possible. May or may not be the final on suspension.

had one of the seized LCA bushings to deal with. That was fun

definitely needs some weight up front now. 46E446C2-CB58-44C3-A13E-2634223D798D.jpgD830F44F-D1EA-449E-9797-34A78C93EB78.jpg

still with 33s, trying to wait to get my rear axle before I go full time 35s

    9E4FE7C3-99D3-4D09-8C99-11C3E289DAE1.jpg

I’ll have the rear done soon. It’s getting longer travel shocks that I converted over from a jeep. Longer brake lines etc. We will see how that goes next week after this snow storm thingy tomorrow

I am usually on it a few times a day so I would say at least for myself it isn’t slow. I wish they had real snow in these neck of the woods. It is the ice that gets you. I miss the deep snow from the Rockies.

My backyard had a good amount today. But not as much as the picture I have above. I was going up the hill tonight (50’ tops) and it got really slick. I didn’t want to tear up my grass so I engaged all 3 lockers so everything was turning at the same speed. Needless to say it was nothing in comparison but I will say there is a lot of ice here. Totally different kinda snow here with all the sleet.

It’s true lol I’m trying to figure out how to keep my doors from freezing shut on my runner tonight, and wondering how sketchy my ride to work is going to be in the morning

Well I can say that I jumped on the freeway today and I felt at most comfortable driving no more than 50 for sure. There was a car that passed me doing 55-60 when I was doing 45 and I was like... Oh just wait until they spin out and I have to pull over to help them. There was a lot of getting pulled into the snow for sure. Even took the quad out for a fun run with the kiddos up and down our small road. That quad had a hard time getting up the grass and moving around with AWD turned on (2005 Polaris Sportman 450). It was a memorable day though for sure.

Sounds like a good day. And it sounds like our families have a little of the same ideas. My sister lives in north Georgia and they decided to snowboard behind their 4wheeler. They also tied one of the scoop shovels to it and used it as a sled.

over in my neck of the woods we got a good amount of snow but our temps kept a slow melt on it throughout the day. We still have a few inches in the grass but the concrete areas and such are back to normal
