I’m sure a lot of you out there have Toyo AT3s. Could you let me know what size you have and your average mpg? I’m a commuter and I’m wondering if I should pull the trigger on the 285s since they just look way better (If the difference is small enough that is).

If you’re worried about MPG’s don’t get 285’s. Search up the plenty of existing threads on MPG and bigger sized tires.
Also, if you’re on stock suspension they won’t fit.

I lost 2 mpg going to 285s, per the computer. However, part of that is because the computer is registering one mile less for every ten miles traveled due to the larger diameter. I haven't had the chance to do a full check using filling up, then setting the trip meter, then filling up later and adjusting the miles.

285's and good gas milage can't be used in the same sentence. I drive with a heavy foot and get about 15mpg.

    It was 17 to 18 when I had 265's.

Valid point. Thanks for your reply! They just look way better than the 265s though.

Lol 4Runners and good mileage can’t be in the same sentence for that matter. Just curious to how much of a difference there was! Thanks for your feedback! I too have a lead foot so I hear ya haha.

Yes they do. I happened to park next to another 4Runner at work yesterday. Hers is a copy of mine, but stock (she just added the rims this week).

C053D965-4A57-4E07-809C-02BBBACA7EBE.jpg I was going with that tire but my tire guy could not get them. So I went with the Nitto’s loving the look.

No, I went with the newer Cooper Evolution MTs. Bit more aggressive than what I wanted for my daily commute, but when you're in the woods around here, there is no cell service and walking out could be 5 miles, or 35 miles. So I tend to go as aggressive as I can stand.

Love that color combo! Looks like you have the same running boards I just ordered. Tygers off of Amazon. I didn't need rock sliders, but the factory rock catchers were dragging quite a bit in the woods, and I'm doing a road trip down to Zion National Park, then Vegas, then Yuma to visit my folks and do some mild Jeep trails with them. My factory running boards would have been destroyed.

I've calculated an average of 18mpg over ~300 miles on my 285/70/17 wildpeaks on stock suspension.

You will love these Tyger steps. I love how they have held up. I removed these from my 17 Pro 4runner. And the finish is still like new. Sounds like a awesome trip. Thanks for the compliment. I bought mine off Amazon also.

I'm on 285/70/17 AT3's in load range C. I am lifted 2" and constantly hauling 500+ LBS of armor, tools, and recovery gear. I have gotten everywhere from 14.5 (driving it like I stole it) to about 18.5 (all highway, 65-70 MPH). I usually get around 16.5.

Before the lift/armor/tires I was averaging around 18.5.

Here's a thread about the SL rated version, and another thread about the Toyos in case you're interested:

If you're a patient driver, you won't see as much loss of fuel economy as an aggressive driver.

    It looks nice!

how many miles do you have on your Nittos? I’ve heard people say road noise becomes an issue past 8k miles, have you noticed a difference? Do you like how it handles on and off-road?

Looks nice! I just hear that the At3s aren’t as noisy as the other AT tires on the road, handle better and lasts a while. I’ve driven a Silverado with AT3s but that’s like comparing a watermelon to a kiwi. Jk. My main concern is road noise when searching for a tire while still having a somewhat aggressive looking tire. I understand it will be noisier but I’d like to have the least noise AT tires haha. I’m between the AT3s, Nittos TG and Falken Wildpeak (the most hated or coveted AT tire that ever was).

Thank you!! I don’t have many miles on them yet. I’m surprised how they ride and noise level. I definitely like the look of them. I won’t know for a while till I get some miles on them. But between the combination of lifting it with higher springs and bigger tires. Very happy so far.

Noise level of tires has never been a thing for me. But I've noticed that the 4Runner seems to really accentuate tire noise more than any other vehicle I've owned. The only time I've ever really noticed it before was in a lifted `79 Dodge pickup with 36" Super Swampers I had when I lived on Kauai. Driving it was like flying in an old prop-driven airplane, the hum was so bad.

With my latest tires, I do notice it quite a bit. But, I have the radio on whenever I'm driving, so not a big deal.

Maybe the smooth top is making them quite.Lol. Also just for some info. I usually run my tires at 35lbs. So far good.
