The only thing I could see doing anything is one of the Advanced Engine Management systems from URD for the superchargers. A performance "chip" is really always going to be a waste of money, especially when its standalone, and even more so when it claims to increase both HP and MPG. Its simply not possible. All youre doing is remapping the fuel/throttle, so you can have one or the other without some sort of physical change. The cool thing about the URD piggyback is that it's self adapting to the extent of the parameters you set.

If you want to tune more out of your engine (I'm assuming your have a 5vz) then I would recommend a standalone unit like a proefi, aem, haltech, motec, etc. They are not cheap but it is the right and safe way to go. It all depends on what you want to use your vehicle for and how much you are willing to spend.

as I was reflecting on the question of upgraded 'chip'...it's a similar concern in the isuzu trooper forum...especially the first gen 2.8 V6...which btw, same engine that was used in S-10's, and pontiac Fiero's (86-88) ..a chip for the above vehicles, isn't really worth installing...as for the 3rd gen 4runners, I could not say...

They are never worth it. If they could improve efficiency, the engineers would. They aren't stupid. They are fighting for every last mpg and have millions of dollars of development behind them.

Some 2-bit company isn't going to just be able to hack both efficiency and hp into a "chip".
