I recently got a 1st gen with a bunch of rust. I was wondering if it would be easier to repair the quarter panels and fenders or just swap the body. What needs to be done to swap the body?

Body swap is a big job; everything on the inside of course has to come out, but that includes all the wiring harnesses as well. Then you have to remove everything you can find that might be in the way, that would prevent the body from coming off unobstructed. At that point, while it’s out of the way, you might as well do a frame up total restoration.

I’m not saying don’t do it, just that it’s going to be a big undertaking.

if most of the body is intact/in good condition, it would be easier to just replace the damaged panels and fenders.

Is this body still available? If so, how much? I'm just north of you in Oklahoma.

Body swaps are a TON of work, but may be worth it. Replacing fenders, doors, hood etc. aren't bad but the quarters and all the little pieces are a pain. This might be the time when a friend/bodyman may come real handy! A project in the works!
