hello fellow toyota 4runner lovers! I'm new to this forum, but I am excited to learn more about the 4runner as I am hoping to soon be a proud owner of a 3rd gen 4runner. I have a small budget for initial purchase, but hopefully a growing budget for extras down the road. when I do get my 4runner, I'l be sure to post a pic.

hey mohoman and daftanddirty, I am visiting Austin for a few days, can y'all recommend a good local used car dealer to work with if I see a 4runner that I like? thanks!

I already looked at one yesterday at Texas Central Motors on N Lamar, but the guy was shady and he claimed that it was a well maintained vehicle but just by looking under the hood and seeing how filthy dirty it was in there and then trying to use the a/c (which was not blowing cold air) I could tell he was blowing smoke up my @$$, so I decided not to even consider the 4runner. I did make an offer after of a lot of looking at it and finding every flaw that I could, but they flat out refused to even consider lowering their price. I won't ever go back there and I don't recommend that anyone shop there unless they want to throw money away or they don't care how much they pay because they have the budget to pay whatever without blinking an eye.

I really hate to waste my time at a dealer who is full of $&*% because the vehicle might be cool, but if the dealer is a joke, then there's no way I will get a good bargain because the dealer thinks they can sell their junk for way more than it's worth and they won't even bother to negotiate.

 

I visited Vancouver, BC several years ago during our college's spring break (March) and I was surprised that the weather was so humid and not cold. but otherwise it was a nice visit. the farmland that I saw on the bus ride from Seattle (where I flew into) was beautiful.

I hope you get to come visit Texas again soon.

I unfortunately have no such dealer I can direct you to. I will say however though, I am currently debating selling my 4th gen 4runner. I’m the second owner and have all maintenance done. Looking for around 8-10 (I have some extras I never had the chance to add). Maybe this was the sign I was looking for!!

 

I am definitely set on a 3rd gen for myself, but I will put feelers out for anyone in TX looking to buy a 4th gen. and it's okay that you don't know of any specific dealers. I figure that since you have had your 4runner for a while, you probably haven't gone to look to buy one anytime recently so it makes sense that you haven't seen any dealers.

 

I often find myself browsing for 3rd gens on Craigslist hoping for a unicorn! I think Dallas might be your best bet. There is a dealer is Houston that restores 3rd gems but the reviews are mixed. I bought the 4th gen in Dallas 2 years ago from the original owner. It’s a waiting game no doubt, best of luck to you!! Cheers

 

I did find an interesting one on the Dallas craigslist that I'll consider. but for me the drive is a bit of a pain in the butt. not the time it takes, it's the driving through traffic on IH35 in Austin! happy hunting to you too!

 

I have not dealt with to many used car dealers in the area. I wouldn't want to direct you wrong. If you have a specific dealer, I could try to ask around for you though.

 

how about a dealership in Weatherford, TX called Howorth Auto Group?

No worries, usually I prefer buying from these websites (tacomaworld, t4r, and 4runners) as the people tend to be* better than dealers. Anyways, still rooting for ya!
