Hello all, first post here coming over from Tundras.com!

The wife purchased one of the white nightshade 4 Runners and wanted to put an after market exhaust in the truck. She really likes the TRD exhaust in the Tundra but there wasn't any TRD options for this 4 Runner.

We ended up going after market and picking up the Flowmaster FlowFX system and at first she liked it, liked it enough where we got rid of the stock system... Now the cabin drone is getting to be too much for her and the kids pretty much hate riding in the car.

I called Gibsons to talk with them about getting a different muffler I could drop into new Flowmaster piping we just installed. Instead of trying to sell me a muffler he was pushing me towards getting a resonator instead of a muffler.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a resonator and do you think this will help solve our problem? I was looking at this resonator as it appears to be the same size as the Flowmaster FlowFX muffler and should drop right in as a replacement.

Is there something else I should be looking at to solve this issue?

I'm guessing they are suggesting to add the resonator rather than replace the muffle with one. Should help a bit but from previous experiences Flowmaster tend to have ton of drone.

Thanks man! Do you think I would be better off with a Resonator swap, just get rid of the muffler and add decent one? If not I may just bite the bullet and get a new muffler to fit in the space. I can just never tell from the videos they post if there is going to be drone. We listed to the FlowFX one and thought it was going to be great.

You might exchange the Flowmaster-FX for a Flowmaster Super-44 as it has actual noise canceling baffles in it where as the FX is just perforated tube in a padded housing. I just put one of these on my Son's 4Runner and it makes a great sound but is nothing like as loud as the FX. FYI I run my 2-1/2" FX with a Flowmaster HP-2 ahead of the muffler and that is working very well.
