Hello all, I wanted to get your guys opinion on changing or adding lights to my newly purchased 1987 4Runner. Here is a pic of the truck. A guy that worked at Johns 4x4 in Boulder Colorado said he wouldn't pay the money to change out the stock headlights with new LED fancy ones. So I think i will just get new stock headlights. But what would you guys do for say a added trail light for the front? Light bar? or ditch lights? Just want your opinions on what would look cool and be the best practicality. thanks!

Hey Jeff - that is what i am struggling with...keeping it as stock as possible or feed my desire to add cool stuff to it.

I have that same headlight conversion on my 88 pickup. It does very well. I put some hyper white bulbs in there and it is a nice mix of modern technology while keeping the factory feel.

I totally agree with keeping it as stock looking as possible however I needed extra lighting for running the Mojave Rd. in the dead of night. I got these lights(Yitamoto?)from a friend who switched to a light bar. No drilling at all. Mounted them using the existing bumper bolts. 3F472253-68BC-4FE4-AF7A-2D060F87122F.jpg

If you live anywhere that has heavy snow/ice just know that any LED headlight that isn't wired to melt ice will cake up on the headlight and will not melt off like you're used to with the stock setup.

I think based on what you guys are saying that i will just get some new stock replacement headlights. I do like Paul's "Yitamoto" front bumper lights that does not screw up the front bumper. I suck at "wiring and electrical" work. I guess I am a bit itimadated. Any help on wiring those up would be appreciated!

If you want a real good upgrade for the headlights I'd recommend some Hella E-codes and either GE megalightes +130 bulbs or GE nighthawk xenon 120's. An aftermarket headlight wiring harness is also a good upgrade and will by itself improve the output of the stock setup.

This was my first upgrade - Cibie E code euro standard head lamps. They are not legal in the us because they don't have the US "DOT 3" stamped on the front of the lens.
no cop yet has looked at my lights and said HEY your not legal. Any way these lights ROCK -you can use ANY H4 bulb. I'm running HID's. IF you get them get the ones with the parking light all you have to do is splice them into the corner light - very easy - I put yellow LED's in to match the corner lights. This is what it looks like

I kept my stock headlights but like Paul did attached some LEDs to the front bumper. Not too intrusive and works pretty good.

    I think they’re called “Nilight”
