Need to replace the terrible stock yellow Halogen Fog lights on my 2020. There doesn't seem to be a lot of H16 LED bulb choices out there. The ones I'm finding are low Lumens

What's out there that won't break the bank and H16 compatible?

I have a lighting addiction. Since last year I've had the morimotos twice, I'm running them now only because i'm blacking out the rig and they have more "black". i've also ran the lexus fogs, awesome lighting but to much chrome for me. I've also had 3 sets of oem led fogs. They are every bit as good as the lexus lights with a blackish option for half the price.
Why so many lights? I've also had 3 runners since June 2019 :help:. I plan on keeping this one!

I just installed the DD fogs,,,, What a difference. I also did the H9 mod for the low beams. Great combo.

I’m in the same boat. I just picked up my new 4Runner ORP last night. The factory LED fog lights are great but the headlamps suck. I too want to find bulbs to match the color of the LED fog lights.

Which ones do you prefer? I’m looking at getting a set of the amber for my 2020 Pro. There is all kinds of posts about which are better. Thanks.

What made you choose the sport over the pro? Or was it just cost?

I’ve had a Baja Designs Squadron Pro amber driving combo foglight kit on my 4Runner for a couple years now and I love them. I was in the market for another foglight upgrade for my Highlander. Baja doesn’t list a kit for it, I could have cross referenced foglight housings or checked to see in my stock 4R housings fit in the Highlander, but DD had a kit listed and Baja didn’t. So I decided I’d save myself the trouble and to see what all the hype was about with the Diode Dynamics SS3 foglight kit so I picked up a Pro Amber SAE kit. I thought it would be a good opportunity to check them out side by side and get a bit of an unbiased comparison.

Once I opened the DD lights and they were in my hands for the first time it was honestly a bit of letdown, they were pretty underwhelming, bordering on disappointing. The DD lights look and feel like cheap knock offs. The cast aluminum housings makes them look very crude and low quality in comparison to BDs nice precision machined aluminum housings. It’s hard to convey, but in person, holding them, the BD lights in general just look and feel like they have a higher level of build quality and fit and finish. The DD lights almost look like they have a plastic housing. Diode Dynamics will (and has) refuted that, and they claim their build quality and the materials used are on par with Baja Designs, however Baja Designs has a lifetime warranty and Diode Dynamics does not... take that how you will.

The BD lights have a pigtail harness coming out compared to a small jumper harness on the DD’s. The DDs use a 2 pin Deutsch connection directly in the back of the housing, it’s a rectangular plug but they used a round seal on the harness, one housing plugged in just fine, the other side I had to use a pocket screwdriver to tuck in the seal to keep from pinching it. You need to test the lights before reassembling because the connection to the stock wiring can be plugged in either direction but will only work one way. The Diode Dynamics were easy to plug into the stock harness whereas the Baja Designs were so f’n tight you questioned if something is wrong with it when trying to plug them in. DD’s 1 piece mounting bracket is a better design than the BD brackets, however BD uses metal brackets and DD uses plastic. Realistically the plastic is fine because regardless of what the brackets are made out of, its being mounted to plastic on the bumper, but for $320 lights I would expect metal.

In terms of performance, it’s not fair to make a direct comparison since one is an SAE beam pattern and one is a driving combo beam pattern, they both have different applications. One beam pattern is meant to be used on the street and focuses light into a legal area, the other is 100% offroad use only and aren’t legal or designed for public roadways. The Baja driving combo squadron pros have insane output, I feel like they put out more usable light then high beams and low beams combined. The Diode Dynamics SAE SS3 pro lights are very impressive in their output and usability, they may look and feel on the cheap, but the output is top notch. They really filled out the scene through the windshield, it was substantially brighter and wider than with the factory fogs, massive difference and a great upgrade. With them aimed to match the factory foglight cutoff there’s no gaps in the lighting and I drove around for about an hour running errands in the dark during a snow storm without ever getting flashed for having lights on.

Final thoughts - The Diode Dynamics SS3 Pro lights are a great upgrade that perform really well, however, in my opinion there are they have quite a few short comings. The wiring, the cheap look and feel, plastic brackets, the short warranty... I think they are very good lights, but arguably not $320 lights. If the Pros came in at $240-$250, without hesitation I’d say buy them, no question about it. With owning both it’s my opinion that if you’re already spending $320, I would just spend more and get the Baja Designs lights - personally I just can’t get past how cheap they look and feel. The extra cost for the Baja quality and lifetime warranty seem worth it to me, especially during group buy pricing.

It certainly is all in one's perspective. I can see all your points. Not ever having experienced Baja Designs fog lights, I got the DD Sport fog lights, mostly due to the $170 Labor Day price, and a lot of great reviews. Personally, I thought the DD Sport fogs are great quality, but that's comparing them to the oem plastic lights.

If I were in the market for DD Pro lights, I probably would have looked closer at BD. But for the price, I am thrilled with the DD SS3 Sport fog lights.

    Thanks for the honest review.

Thanks for the great write up Agent outside!! I know my 20 inch Bajadesigns led light bar I just purchased but did not add it to my Pro yet. Is very nice and too notch. And watching Stage3motorsports video on install on the 4runner with the bajadesigns fog lights in amber they have the squadrons for $334.00 shipped which is a great price. I’m kinda of leaning towards the bajadesigns because I have the led bar.

I'm guessing you have these installed by now...? Any issues with installation or aiming?

Pretty straight foward on install. As far as aiming. Not a whole lot of adjustment. Maybe just about 3/8" of adjustment range if that. And can only do it when out. I just installed brackets so they were aiming down the lowest before I installed them onto back of bumper. Seems like a good spot to have them in.

I just installed the diode dynamics ss3 pro in white/sae fog. They are a great improvement over the stock and so far no flashing from oncoming drivers.

Just got these in the mail! DD SS3 pro fogs in amber! Can’t wait to swap out my bajas and pop these in that are SAE compliant so I can run them in the street.

Do you have to go through an annual state inspection or something? I can’t imagine your local PD/Sherriff giving it a single thought.

It’s more of trying to not be an ahole to oncoming traffic/other drivers at night. I don’t use my bajas whatsoever around traffic because they have no cutoff and are super bright. Its like having someone driving with their brights on, which I’m sure you wouldn’t appreciate having someone behind you with them on or in front of you. It’s being a courteous driver:)
