    Hi all,
Does anyone have a problem with rearview mirror glare on their 5th gen? and has anyone replaced it with an after market? I don't know if the auto dimming feature just sucks or if the tinted rear window prevents it from working properly, or maybe it's just the super bright hid's and led's now. I've always preferred the manual flip type mirrors. Any Ideas or suggestion? The glare is really annoying.

I don't know that glare was really my issue, but I hate those bulky auto dimming mirrors. Plus there's a light on them that i find aggravating at night. I removed mine and installed a used "new take off" Subaru base mirror I bought off Ebay for like $10. Same OEM supplier. Much better. I also have it folded up as high as possible, it damn near touches the overhead console... I find the stock position in the middle of the windshield to be in the way.

That’s been an annoyance of mine from day one. A bulky vision-blocking mirror and it doesn’t really work all that well. I prefer the old manual flip up styles.

Can you provide any more info on the part number you got? Does it screw right into the 4R mirror mount?
And what did you do with the electrical wiring? Thx.

I want to say I was searching for "Donnelly mirror (4Runner) (Subaru) (Tacoma)" since Donnelly is actually the OEM supplier. Any mirror that mounts to a windshield button (as opposed to a headliner tab) should work. Looking at my Ebay history the auction heading was "2015 2016 2017 Subaru Outback Rearview Mirror OEM Black. The link is dead so I can't show you.

As far as wiring, yeah, tuck it up in there like Buffalo Bill did with his junk.

I don't think you can turn it off permanently without just unplugging it. IIRC there is a power switch but it defaults to 'on' with the ignition and also there is a LED light that never turns out.
