K&N Intake vs Nature

I did something i might be regretting.



I thought it would be cool to stick a K&N open intake on my 99' supercharger runner... Until i thought about going through puddles.

I love bombing through big muddy puddles all the time. Will this intake get drenched?

Already needed to replace the MAF because filter came over oiled from the factory (yes-tried cleaning it with solution, no go...)

Bummer about your MAF getting oiled up. Did you try using the MAF cleaner from the autoparts store? The MAF's are likely just a hot wire anemometer that should be able to be cleaned up from the oil residue with some carefully directed squirts and some drying of the wire. The older AFM's on the 2nd gens are a spring loaded flapper which is not quite as nice as the MAF for performance but it doesn't give a rip about K&N air filter oil.

As for splashing about I had the same wonder as my son and I both have 2nd Gens with 3.0 L 3VZ-E's and the K&N FIPK "hot" air intakes as those kits have no shrouding. So I fabricated an aluminum air box that draws the air from behind the head light just like the way the OEM air box did. My son still has his unshrouded and his filter seems to get cleaned a lot more than mine needs to be. Being in Southern California a bow wave is not very likely but a well sealed up air box with a snorkel would be the solution if that was a regular deal with water crossings!...

 

If you love bombing thru puddles then I would suggest a snorkel.
