Hey there, new to wheeling... I'm in a 3rd Gen Limited up here in British Columbia, Canada. I just got back from Alberta, took my truck out for the first time. It was a blast, almost rolled over, got stuck on a mountain, it started raining, the sun was going down... Christ. It's okay though, we were safe.

Well, after an eventful trip, I've decided to jack my truck. Here's what's going in right now,

    S/P 25430 Upper Control Arms
    ARB 2881 Front Coils
    ARB 2890 Rear Coils
    Bilstein 5100 Series Struts
    Bilstein 46mm Monotube Shock
    ARB 2890 Rear Coils Med
    Cardone971697 w/ Inner Tie Rods
    Moog RK640425/426 Control Arms

I'm new to all this, but I've been getting help from some guys at a 4 Wheeling shop. They seem great. Found them on a recommendation. This whole deal will add about a 3/3.5 inch lift.

Here's a picture of my truck and me. What I want to do is in the second picture. Now that I have the lift. I'd like to get that whole chrome bumper setup and back bumper this guy has, except I'd probably like a winch. But, I don't know where to start, or if the parts are even made. Does anyone know what I'm looking for here?

I found a guy to build the housing for the lights and the custom grill is easy enough.

    Any advice helps.

Welcome from Wisconsin. Sounds like a good build, I just switched from a Tacoma to 4Runner, so I'm kind of in the 4Runner learning stage, but there are those here that can steer ya in the right direction. Good luck.

I was able to gain a little perspective. I have to sacrifice the winch if I want the OG chrome bumper look. The fat lip model is not a straight swap. So, that means I can't go out alone and I'm dependant on someone else if I get stuck. Boy, that's a tough one. I mean.. Wow, I'm torn.

A carry along is an option, but not sure how reliable that would be.

I heard I can use the ARB bumpers kits that fit on Tacoma's.

Looks like you might need a new belt.

I was going to say, 'how can you tell by just looking at the truck?'
Then, it hit me. Hahaha.. You know, the belt I'm wearing is the Grip6 belt, you might have seen it advertised online. Supposed to be 'the last belt you'll ever buy', and you know what? I'm not having much luck with it. It slips and needs to be adjusted constantly. Maybe, I'm just not doing it right.

Just poking a little fun. Thanks for being a good sport.

Congrats on the 4Runner! You have a good looking truck!

I took a good look. I think it's going to be the ShockWorks armour without the tubing. It looks like I have the option to add a winch, which I plan to.. hope it's not too expensive. I like how it has that short design, I never like the fat lip on the 00' Limited.

I have a question tho. Mileage. I've had large tires for a while, so I'm used to its gas consumption. But all this added weight from the front and back armour is going significantly affect my mileage, hey?

Weight definitely affects mileage and other stuff too, like performance, handling, brake wear. Guys who need maximum protection and are doing a lot of rock crawling love/need steel, but if aluminum will do the job, there’s significant weight savings. My front winch bumper is a Victory 4x4 Blitz in aluminum and together with a Warn Evo VR 10s winch, weighs 102lbs.

So, unless I'm doing hardcore rock crawling, do you think getting front and back skid plates is necessary? I could wait until I'm doing more advanced wheeling before I install them. Save a few bucks on the initial build. I'll probably only be hitting easy to moderate trails for now.

Hey checho503, what are the condition of the stock skid plates under your 4 Runner? Maybe they’ve been removed, or it didn’t come with any, but most 4 Runners have some basic protection. Maybe yours are rusty or damaged? Only you can decide if it’s enough. I’m pretty careful off road, and my OR’s stock skids so far, have been enough protection. But if a time comes to replace them, I know it will be with aluminum ones.

Welcome! I’m glad you made it to your rig before your pants fell off ;)

but seriously, good luck with your build...best bit of advice... don’t compromise. Go with what you want. I could have saved myself some cash if I didn’t settle in the beginning...
