I just bought an 1995 4RUNNER SR5 4X4, and painted and re-do the interior but im trying to make it a reliable car to start overlanding, here its where I could use your knowlege and help,

Where should I start to make it more relaible, I already have a new water pump, radiator and fan what else should I swap before it fails on me

Im planning a trip to Mammoth lakes on January and I would like to take the 4Runner from San Diego CA to Mammoth 800 miles witouth trouble

    Regards

Replace all fluids, hoses, and belts. Make sure brakes are good. Replace starter maybe. The blue color looks awesome by the way. And welcome.

Nice job 19954RUNNER! Agree with trlhiker, but also, how does it run? How does it sound? Does it use or lose oil? How does it feel in terms of vibes and trans shift points? Do some driving with it before you go. Lastly, crawl under it and give all the brackets, hangars, wiring etc a visual inspection. Is everything where it’s supposed to be and in good shape? Driving an older vehicle isn’t for the faint hearted or for anyone lacking confidence or self reliance. Be aware what’s happening at all times, and be preventive and your restored ride will be the envy of your fellow off roaders. It looks great!

Great looking truck! Amazing work... I would highly recommend new head gaskets and ARP head studs.

How did you prep the chrome mirrors and door handles. I want to color match mine but just as a reference I wanted to know what you did. Also is the grille after market or did you cut out the middle part?

Welcome to a great forum. Along with everyone else's good suggestions, be sure to replace any dry rot rubber items. Bushings, belts, etc. And check the alternator.

Looks like you’ve got some engine work to do for sure.

What do you know about the motor ?

Looking at your current picture, your 1/2 way there, do you know when the head gaskets were last replaced ?

I see a bunch more, but that’s a start. Gonna need more info Jose.

Go For It! I owned a 1995 SR5 4runner with a 5 speed manual Transmission that 4runner was awesome (except the color a semi gold tan color fricking Ick!) the engines are easy to me they were to work on the things run and run forever unless you hit a deer at 65 mph and roll the thing <----- that is what happened to mine but I still drove it home .

FRESH NEW PAINT AND INTERIOR , JUST STARTING...
    UPDATE

Hello its been a long time, and a long story...
I sent the motor to a shop and they dont knew what they were doing, after I picked the truck, it started leaking oil and mixing coolant so I took it to another mechanic who repaired it completely, he took it all apart and put it together with new seals, machined heads, new rings and metals Just the way it should be done from the beggining.

I built a roof rack, painted the rear bumper, installed some rear lights and finished installing the interior.

Righ know im trying to design the new front bumper from a 1/8¨ steel plate and saving some money to send the transmission A/T to get check, it doesn't want to go in the 4 shift and the dash is fashing the O/D OFF light
until now the motor feels and sound really good.

    My TO-DO LIST
-Front Bumper with round fog lights and winch
    -Wrecking yard run. long list
-New tires ( havent decided if I want 17" wheels or stock)
    -Transmision issues
-New bushings from energy suspension 8.18103R
    -Bilstein shocks
    -Moog rear springs
    -Stereo
    -DRIVE IT

Im open on suggestions for suspension and front bumper design

Nice looking build. I'm a little late to the party, but where did you get those seats? Is it custom upholstery or can you buy those? I would love some myself someday.
