Hi everyone I'm new to 4runners.com. so here is my deal. I own a 93 4runner green 4x4 auto. This is my dream truck. Six years ago trans leak and lost power. I park it on my dad's property and forgot all about it. Engine is strong and had no problems. Now I have a place for the truck and my question is.... Should I buy another 2nd gen and use the one I have as a parts truck or should I invest my money in fixing my first truck trans problem? Advice and insight would be helpful. Thanks for reading.

Well finding a decent 2nd gen will probably cost you between 2-4K. Not sure how much a new tranny costs but if you have the skills, I would just fix yours rather than possibly getting a headache.

agree to Just fixing what you have. You know its a good truck and motor so keep it that way instead of throwing potential junk parts in there.

Or find yourself and R150F five speed and pitch the slug auto. Just kidding on that jab, but I can tell you that I really enjoy tossing my rig back and forth between 4th and 5th gear to make the highway speed passes happen! I have a host of other modifications I have made to my 1991 that I have now had since 2017.

I kick myself for waiting so long to re-engage the best brand there is!... The 2nd Gen is the best looking 4Runner Toyota ever made. Aside form these being OBD I vehicles with the funky distributors and the amazing array of vacuum actuated emissions gear, when they are tuned up and running like new they are a ton of fun to drive.

Cheers, mate on your fixing what you have got, green that's a great color!... Get some pics and post'em...

I just had to replace my shot 5spd. I found one on car-parts for $450 that only had 115k on it (had to make a long drive to go pick it up, so $535 with gas). Upgrading to the 5spd and getting your 4Runner back on the road would be way cheaper and less hassle than getting a new one or trying to fix the auto.

Update. So I had an opportunity to buy another 2nd gen 4runner for a good price. I will work on the 93 but at my own pace. Now I have a running 91. I love it thanks for the input. I'm not mad at owning two 2nd gen 4runners lol IMG_20200907_100952_328.jpg IMG_20200907_100952_359.jpg
