Just joined the forum as I am on my way to pick up a 94 4runner. I hope to get plenty of insight into maintenance and upgrades and i know forums are the best place for knowledge. I look forward to talking to everyone. I am purchasing for $850 so hopefully it is an ok deal 118712378_10224374488132493_901964977778824065_o.jpg

    Welcome aboard!

Usually the two biggest things to look out for on these trucks is frame rust and blown head gaskets(BHG). The frames are boxed and rust from the inside out. Take a screwdriver and poke around underneath. They also like to rust out around the windshield frame(which has been a dealbreaker for me). The other common issue is the 3.0 is notorious for BHG, which is caused by the rear exhaust routing behind the cylinder head and cooking the two rear cylinders. Good luck!

Welcome and congrats. Hopefully the owner kept up all the maintenance. And check for frame rust as Best said.

    Eric,
    Welcome,
Hey, I can see the emblem on the grill but state that it is a 3VZ-E 3.0L V6 with auto or a 5 speed for the transmission in your profile.
That helps the right people to get on the right page with helping out.

$850 seems awfully low, I would take a very long and thorough look through everything. Poke the frame for rust, check the engine oil and transmission fluid, and get as much info as you can about previous maintenance. Assuming you don't find any major problems like the aforementioned BHG or frame rust, that's a hell of a deal. Welcome to the forum.:kona:

    Replaced EGR vacuum modulator!
I picked up my '95 4runner for $800.00. 250k miles. Very clean. Almost no rust (Oregon vehicle). But, it ran like crap and not over 3000 rpm.

After some diagnosis we found a blocked catalytic converter, a broken EGR vacuum modulator, and a noisy transfer case output bearing.

Cat and EGR fixed. Bearing, next! Looks like dropping the trans is the way to go.
