    Made some crossbars to attach a cargo box. Just got back from using it on an 1800 mile road trip. I track every tank on Fuelly, and I only have 1 direct comparison that I've traveled twice recently (Fort Independence on Hwy 395 to home in LA) but on this leg I saw a 1.4 MPG improvement over just strapping the stuff to the roof rack. So the aero definitely helps.

    Forgot I also did the cabin filter. I got that off Amazon i don’t think the dealership ever did it due to clutter in my glovebox.

    It took me 2 weeks to go through every post of this thread and I didn't really get any work done. I don't have my 4R yet, it is supposed to be delivered at the dealer today.
    Things I have learned in 357 pages:
    - it is expensive to go overlanding/offroading
    - the stock OR rims are better than you think: thicker outer rim, pocket for the valve stem, easy 275s or even 285s on them due to their offset. I will keep them, function over looks wins in my books;
    - don't get the pro basket as you will be associated with "posers", "you should've purchased the pro 4R", etc; and yet, everybody is sporting the pro rims, go figure;
    - yes, it will rub;
    - best "LED" is the H11/H9 halogen mod;
    - better to buy the good stuff once and cry once;
    - your 4R will get dinged in the parking lot no matter where you park;
    - you WILL spend a lot of cash
    Still no call from the dealer, darn it.

    Pretty much agree with everything, except:

    Sleeping outside is supposed to be cheap. What most people call "overlanding" is really just car camping with goofy accessories. You don't need any of that to go outside. Hell, you don't even need a 4Runner.

    Second, I personally don't recommend the Pro rack- not because I think it makes anyone look like a "pro poser", but because the rack is decoration at best. I think it has something like a 90 pound recommended weight limit. This is in the Pro brochure literature:

    [IMG]

    It also is difficult to attach any large items due to its dual height layout and it looks like the car version of a receding hairline. Recommend keeping the stock rack or looking into a well-designed aftermarket rack like Sherpa.

    Changed my air filter today.

    We had a big fire really close that spewed a bunch of ash in the air. That ash has been circulating around for a couple weeks. Now it seems to have subsided, hence the filter change.

    I get my filters from the dealership because I like the OEM filters; however, the one I got this time around was different. The old one was made in Japan and had what looks like a doodlebug pad attached to it:

    images_e866c53488dd8ec1639873292b2e52747bfbfba7.jpg

    The new ones are made in the US and look like a regular filter without the doodlebug pad.

    [IMG]

    Asked for the old one, but they said the new one supersedes it now. I like the idea of having a little extra filtration with the old one. :pout:

    It's pretty damn easy if you do the "no spring compressor" method. It only took me a few hours for the fronts.

    Is that $190 for one alignment? That's what I paid for a lifetime alignment from Firestone.

    Spent about 10 minutes yesterday tearing apart my dash and trying to figure out why my https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P2WMLXK
    wouldn't fit my 5th gen. Come to find out I was shipped a 4th gen model, so I ordered it again, hoping to get a 5th gen model this time.
    My brother has a 4th gen, so I'll give him the first one I received.

    Super simple to get the dash apart and pull the top off the center console to allow me to get my fingers under the plastic piece holding the bottom of the dash piece in place to pop it out.

    Oh yeah, big improvement on ride quality.

    You'll wonder why the 5th gen didn't come with these in the first place.

    But seriously, don't bother with the spring compressor. Way easier without it.

    Decided to replace my hack job rear mud flaps with the Revtek ones. Im not real impressed. I think the plastic should be a softer more pliable plastic. I ordered from Autoplicity. The envelope they sent was completely open and only 5 push pins were in there. It should be fine, but I expected better. They definitely look better than my hack job. I’m also not impressed with the big opening for mud to collect on the passenger side. I paid $43 so I’m not too upset about my issues with them.

    i dunno. It holds my giant ridge line bag and my water tank no problem. It’s just fine, do other racks hold more, sure. But it’s by no measure garbage.

    I didn't say it was garbage. What I am saying is that I wouldn't spend money ($500+) to get one in lieu of a stock rack. Heck, I'm the dumb guy who's using a cargo box on an aftermarket rack when a stock rack would have worked perfectly fine, so my opinion is just as silly as anyone else's here.

    The rack is way ugly and based on what you posted as far as weight limits, doesn't seem that its useful at all. Just like a lot of the added accessories that everyone takes off when they buy a PRO/4Runner.

    Is this a way to have your ipod music at the control of the deck up front? I use a 32GB USB 3.0 with it full of music in the USB port which I can browse through the deck. Looks like you can do that as well with an iphone? I've actually never tried it.

    Reminds of me of my old subaru that had a 6 Disk CD changer in the trunk LOL

    To be fair, it's included with the (higher) price of the Pro......so you are paying for it. Obviously it's your only option if you want the Pro so you don't have much of a choice.

    The nice thing about the rack is that it actually has some re-sale value compared to almost all of the other racks on the 4Runner. If it does bother anyone, they can take it off, sell it for $500 and put that towards something that fits their needs better.
