I don’t know what to do with my runner...the engine has been worked on extensively (All new gaskets, belts, hoses, water pump) and runs great. The transmission seals, brakes, tires, and random minor things need to be replaced. I feel the repairs will be costly compared to what I paid for vehicle. It has 244,000 miles on it.

I would get the brakes and tires done if you wish to keep it as they are safety issues. What are the minor things that need to be done? Minor things are usually cheap if you do them yourself. Is the tranny leaking bad or not?

The brakes need to be “rebuilt”, the transmission seals are bad (causing reverse not to work unless warmed up). The total estimate for brakes, tires, and transmission work is $2500

A big part of car ownership is emotional so do you love it? If not, what’s it worth in your area and what can you buy for the cost of repair i.e.$2500. Only you know the answers to those questions but it sounds like it’s on the way to another loving home soon. Haha. Someone is going to be happy because it looks pretty good for an old vehicle.

I actually do love it, just didn’t know if it was a stupid decision to do so...thank you!

Hey Sinesther, vehicles are very expensive, and the costs you’re talking about i.e. $2500, are chump change for us irrational types on this forum! If I owned that old 4 Runner, I’d love to be obsessive compulsive about it. It’s super cool. Spend the money! It’s well worth it. Check out Hemmings or bring a trailer and see how much they go for.
Ok, everybody has a financial reality, but us serious car types develop a budget, and move along carefully forward, fixing everything, even fixing things that ain’t broke yet. It’s part of our joy of Toyota ownership to drive, fix, and mod the best vehicle on earth.

Thanks guys! Gave me the motivation and inspiration to fix it! I think it has potential! I hate that it’s not 4x4 but I do love it so!

You've spent money fixing the motor and it still runs great you said. Why not spend more and get the brakes & tires for it(approx. $1500 ).......
Then I would get a rebuilt transmission. Most come with 1 year warranty and are a lot cheaper than new ones. Nice looking 92 btw

Welcome!! I agree with the rest of the replies. That is a fairly inexpensive price for a fine looking machine. Much less than new one and yours already fits well.
