    I have a question about towing my travel trailer. I have 2017 SR5 Premium 4x4 4Runner.
    It came factory (I assume they all do) with receiver and trailer plug. Does this mean I can plug my 2018 Coachmen Clipper 17bh into it and go? Or do I need to install a break controller first?
    The trailer weighs 3,000 pounds dry. Thanks.

    Don’t even think not having brakes is an option. God forbid you are ever in an accident, but if you are and have no trailer brakes, they call that contributory negligence. In a litigious country, you can only imagine the worst case scenario.

    YOU NEED A BRAKE CONTROLLER for all of the good reasons...... Tekonsha makes the best and they are plug 'n play with the factory connector under the dash, left of the steering wheel.

    Yes, I would re-iterate: Brake controller is required. I also have an older Tekonsha that does more than the trick. 3,000 pounds doesn't seem like a lot until you start going 20+ miles an hour, press the brake and realise you're still barrelling forward while overheating your brakes. (Personally tested on a rural country road near me with my old 03 with V8) :)
