Does anyone in the Chicagoland area (or Illinois in general) know of any trails to take your truck to? Nearest that I know of are the Badlands in Indiana but that's a hike.

As @Agent_Outside mentioned, The T.W.A.T starts in southwestern Wisconsin. The most interesting stretch I've seen so far is between Potosi, WI, and Lansing, IA. I'm hoping to check out the northernmost section this summer or fall.

There are also plenty of forest roads in the Lakewood/Loana district of the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest. This would be about 4 hours from Chicago. The Pipeline trail is there as well. But, I hear that there are some new restrictions that might not allow full size vehicles in some sections anymore.

In my google searches I heard you’re able to drive right up on the water of Lake Michigan at silver lake dunes in Michigan. About a 3 hour drive, still contemplating when to do that but if you’re game I’m up for a caravan.

Indeed you are, not to be a downer but it's not that great. I took a dirt bike through there on a trip in 2008ish.

Have good tires, bring traction devices and air down if you go!
