    We had a '15 mustang with the V6 and the automatic tranny (i know i know, shush, it was a blast to drive), so we got a '19 2.3 turbo with the new 10 speed. I was in the market several times for an F150 and I think I know a thing or two about them.
    A few things to look for:
    - the 2.3t needs premium to give you the extra power, on regular gas is kinda gutless; this might be a turn-off for some, it is for me. Read the fine print. The old V6 feels more torquey and better overall, so probably you will want the V6 2.7t that is also on the F150, this is a good rated engine that actually takes on the Coyote 5.0 from 0-40 quite nice;
    - the 10 speed tranny still has issues: lurching forward at stop lights, loud bangs at highways speeds downshifting and jerking, loud bangs associated with vehicle movement like you are rear-ended while moving from P to R and then from R to D; these are all present in the F150 and mustangs, mine as well. You better have your foot planted on the brakes like Thor, you never know when this hits, it is totally random. Our stang has 10,000 miles and we got it new;
    - the ecoboost engines were known to choke if you live in a humid climate and go for long drives, the water condenses and loops into the intake and then when accelerating hard, it gets sucked in and you get into limp mode. They say they fixed the design of the intake, however, this is FYI and read about it as it still happens with the F150s at times.
    - the 10 speed tranny is co-developed with GM and all you guys here are pampered by Toyota's quality and reliability, it might a rude awakening for some of you; the same issues as above are starting to show their ugly head on the GM forums as they offer the 10 speed only on the suprt top trim levels, where Ford has it in all trims.

    So before I take the plunge on looks alone, I would do myself a favor and read a bit about the current powertrain. Google is your friend. I have never seen ever in my life such a clean auto forum like this one here.
    Also, don't expect the same treatment from Ford as you do from Toyota; most of the problems will be brushed of as "normal behavior, can not duplicate".
    Note: I have owned 14 vehicles in the last 20 years and i am trading in my '19 16.000 miles Ram 1500 hemi for a brand new 4runner and we are trading in the mustang soon for a Rav4 or Corolla hatch. We are totally done with domestics.

    Haha @canadian.bacon I owned a Chevy Silverado for 6 years, after owning a Tacoma for the 6 before, and I can honestly say I agree with the "rude awakening," but I attribute my knowledge of working on vehicles to the Chevy, as you'll need to learn to fix them if you own them. The Toyota was just bolting on fun stuff, the Silverado and Equinox was fixing problems.

    I'd have never learned to work on vehicles if all I owned were Toyota, so I appreciate my Chevys.

    Die hard Runner owner and also smitten with the new Bronco for offroading. But I never buy first year models of anything, so will play the patience game.

    Can't wait to see how the new hybrid 4Runners will be.

    Had my first sighting of a Bronco on the road the other day. A Sport. Sort of looked a bit like a Land Rover, but not much like a Bronco.

    Edit: Rover, not Cruiser...

    Any of those turbo engines will need premium for that kick, you just lose so much power due to timing being pulled thanks to 87 not being able to prevent knock/detonation. Obviously the tune can handle the octane and iirc, ford has an octane sensor to detect what its running to adjust the timing tables accordingly. Personally, I would never run anything but premium with any force inducted engine.

    that's because the first ones out are built on the edge chassi, so it's a glorified ford edge with bronco body panels and a slightly more offroad capable awd system. if you want the real deal, you have to wait for the real offroad models which are on brand new frame/chassi. At least this is what I read when I was looking into them and trying to decide to try and get the first waive of bronco, wait for a bronco badlands or get a 4runner.

    I have 0 regrets getting the 4 runner and hope the bronco is as awesome as it looks to be on paper and ford can get some of the quirks sorted out with their turbo v6 and goofy 10 speed transmission.

    I ran 87 in my GTI all the time, except for a couple tanks of 91 (we can't get 93 here) when it was new. Didn't see any performance benefit but it ran slightly cooler on 91. Engine oil temps were about 5-10 degrees cooler.

    Ford has gotten pretty good at designing bland mediocre vehicles based loosely on others successful designs like the Tacoma. I wonder if they’ll rip off the cybertruck if it’s successful.

    Example, please. Ford has good designers and a pretty smart engineering team. The bean counters kill them, like the rest of the domestics.
    Edit: the ranger has nothing in common with the Taco. Period.

    yrs ago, I owned a first gen Bronco...1970 model...until I sold it...always loved that first gen..later versions of the Bronco, did not interest me...myself, I'm quite happy with my '97 Limited...and I'm eager to see how your bronco turns out, and holds up...

    Lol, I respectfully disagree, the Ranger is a Taco wannabe for sure. All cars look mostly the same these days, it’s a fact.

    Totally different engines, transmissions, looks, interiors.
    Taco offers a lot more on base models, including all the safety stuff. I think 2020 has Apple/Android where the ranger gives you a small camera.
    The only thing they have in common is vehicle class.

    I had a 77 Bronco (Ranger Trim) and later on a 76 Bronco! That 77 was my first vehicle love and I sure wish I had her now! Probably a $50,000 vehicle today! V8 302!

    Did you see the SPORT or the Bronco proper?
    You think this looks like a Kia Soul?

    Good points, and you'd know better than most. While I wouldn't actively discourage someone from buying American if they're doing so with eyes wide open (well, there are some really craptastic American cars that I can't imagine being a good choice for anyone lol), as you point out there are a few America cars that are pretty compelling. Camaro, Corvette and Mustang are really big performance bargains. Tahoes / Yukons are pretty cool, and statistically they seem to last a long time. I never completely understood the huge popularity of the F150, but I guess there aren't a lot of competitors in the same class, other than the Tundra.

    Anyway, the new Bronco sure looks great. Ford clearly cares a lot about it, and invested a huge amount of thought and design into it. So who knows, maybe it will be pretty reliable in addition to exceptionally capable!

    Sad about you selling your 4Runner but super happy to see your post! Never thought at my age I'd consider another cross-country road trip but your picture of Monache led me to research the area - I am all in for maybe the "Last Great Road Trip". That place is awesome! I've been up on the Rubicon years ago on my dirt back and loved the beauty of it all but no way would I take my 4Runner there. If you can, PM me or just post more details of that area. Even my daughter, another 4Runner lady, is stoked to go. Thanks!

    Enjoy your Bronco when it arrives! I had a 4dr Sasquatch'd Black Diamond reserved that I ended up dropping and buying my 4Runner instead. Depending on how the whole thing goes, once the options for the '22MY hits. I may throw down another reservation. Since by '22-'23 I should have my 4Runner closer to being paid off, and I think a Bronco is gonna look pretty good sitting in the driveway with my SR5P.

    By then the 6th Gen should be out or at least confirmed so you’ll have to decide between new 4r or bronco:bananadance:

    Not my cup of tea. It definitely has a Kia Soul vibe, but hopefully you enjoy it and it proves to be rugged and reliable.

    Too bad you couldn't have waited a year to unload your 4R with these crazy resale values being tossed around, but no one could have seen this coming.
