I mean, it's a bank technically... you'd need the same to open any other bank account...

I have used PayPal for years. Never had to give photo ID. Make sure not a scam. I have received scam emails from ebay using PayPal as scam. Reported to PayPal year or two ago. Just contact PayPal customer service

May be a new thing. I’ve had PayPal for over a decade and didn’t have to do that

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
I second rcems's caution of it maybe being a scam. I also haven't had to provide such details. I could see it being a requirement if you were selling a whole lot, but you haven't used it in years, so that's weird.

Are you still using your same old account? Or are you trying to create a new one? Maybe the newest accounts require info. I don't know.

I use paypal all the time. If the retailer lets me I use paypal rather than finding my cc.

So far no picture ID required. Just bought stuff yesterday.

I prefer CC to PayPal. The one thing I filed a paypal claim it got rejected because there’s was a tracking number of them them sending me something... I’d didn’t matter what I actually received, I received something, so they denied my claim.

I would be more concerned of a scam if it came across in an email, but its listed under the account verification after i log in. Would be nice if i could just call someone about it.

This happened to me too. I sold something on eBay and PayPal automatically changed my account from a personal account to a business account. Then it wouldn't let me have access to my money unless I was willing to provide all my tax information. I had to contact their customer service via the chat feature on the website and get it switched back to a personal account. After that was done I was able to transfer money back into my bank account after a day or two. Haven't had any issues since.

When PayPal separated from eBay and transitioned into a bank they had to start following federal law. I was still confused why they would automatically change my account status though after 20 years, but in the end just a slight pain in the rear to get it switched back.

Been waiting on the "chat" most of the afternoon. With the "pandemic" "decimating" the known word, customer service is a bit slow. Darn thing is i can't even close the account until i can get the access worked out.

It's been a pain in the ass every time I try to use the app. I've used the Website and it seemed to work better.

I agree with previous posts. I've used Paypal for many years with hundreds, if not more than a thousand transactions and never had to provide any ID.
