I know, I know... for any of you that live in CO I'm sure the last thing you want is yet another Texan coming there -- we do enough damage as it is, I'm sure. Cost of living in Denver is high with all the people flocking in, traffic sucks now more than ever, trails are packed and it's impossible to get away from people within a 2 hour drive from Denver.

That's precisely why we're not going to Denver. Me and my GF are in mid 30s and late 20s and living in DFW, but the big cities never really appealed to us. The idea of facing all the people and traffic and prices in Denver didn't help things either. So, we decided to move to the western slope, Grand Junction area in particular. Yes, I know jobs aren't much there, but I can work remote with my job and don't anticipate an issue there. Even so, we have a plan B. She's a social worker and looks like for her it'll be easier to get a job there than me, if I had to.

Pretty stoked, to be honest. Smaller town, glorious MTB trails all over (this is super important to me), 2 hours away from the awesomeness of San Juans, Moab, etc. We're campers, hikers, explorers and enjoy a good time away from the chaos of the daily rush, and overall are looking to slow things down a little, even at the cost of less money coming in. I guess our priorities have shifted in the last few years.

If you're from GJ or know the area, feel free to share tips on best areas to live, jobs (I'm in transportation/3PL/operations) and anything else you deem relevant.

Congrats but hate to say that GJ is not as cheap as you think. Yes it is much cheaper than the front range but still out of my price range otherwise I would also move there in a heart beat. Beautiful area. Awesome that you can telecommute. Good luck.

Yeah, I know it's not cheap, but where we live in DFW it's about as expensive as Denver area, given that DFW has been in huge growth for the past 7+ years and we're seeing similar housing demands driving costs here as well. So overall, GJ area will still be cheaper for us than what we have currently.

All true. I'm used to state income tax as I spent most of my life in IL (shudder) and I'll be able to save considerable gas money as I'll be telecommuting, so increase registration will be absorbed by that.

All in all I really don't expect it to be cheaper. I'll probably cost about the same as what we pay now around DFW.

True, and true about having state income tax too. The registration cost drops a little each year for the first seven years, if I remember correctly. I'm happy you're excited to move here. I'm looking forward to moving to a place that reminds me of what Colorado was like 20+ years ago.

    Where's the Not Like button?

Colorado has problems like every state. CO is much different outside the metro area than in. I wish the metro area was like it was years ago, but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. Good luck with the move, and settling into GJ! My wife and I are planning our escape from Denver, and will be in a nice quiet part of the state w/in a year or so. I'm envious that you'll get there first (we're headed SW, not to GJ...), but we'll get there!

Nope. Just because I didn't like what you wrote here doesn't condemn you forever. I'm sure I can learn something from you in the future.

There’s lots of room in Canada, you just have to wait until there’s a vaccine to get in.
