    fellas,

I extensively research before I buy new cars. I've owned nothing but BMWs for the last 16 years. My lifestyle has changed in my later 30s (4 wheelers and dirt bikes, trsil riding, camping) and a 4 runner seems to fit every need I have. Sadly, hauling a trailer around off road I have certainly exceeded the X5s capability at times. Plus a runner would be a dope recovery vehicle on parts of a trsil a X5 certainly cannot go.

I'm looking at 2020 TRD off road. Excuse my newb-ness, but, I'd imagine toyota does a good job with in house shocks and the crawl control, terrain select, and most importantly KDSS (which i hear the trd pro doesn't have?). Ive thought about thr trd pro but I plan on lifting it, fabricating my own skid plates, maybe 35s. Which do you recommend? Pro or off road pkg?

    A couple questions

    1. Is the runner decent at towing? Nothing crazy. Including trailer and tools im pulling 4000ish pounds (dirtbike, gas, quad, tools). My X5 diesel is a surprisingly excellent towing vehicle.

    2. Anything I should look for, problems wise if I go used? For reference im looking at a 2019 TRD PRO tomorrow with 5k miles for $43k.

    3. If I go used I saw a android infotainment screen (I forget the name) is that worth it?

Thanks guys and I look forward to getting one soon.

The Pro does not come with KDSS. For what you're planning, it seems an Off Road would fit the bill nicely. If you want 35s, you'd have to replace the upgraded Pro suspension, which is going to add to the selling price of a Pro.

You will not like towing 4K lbs with 35’s. The 4Runner will tow that load but it will not be like the diesel x5 due to the torque curve of the gas engine vs diesel.

I believe you would be happier with a sequoia or land cruiser.

The stereo in a 4Runner is sad. It sounds ok but the entune software is terrible. I just upgraded to a Pioneer 9” android head unit. It’s amazing.

Exactly what dark knight said. The 4.0L V6 is good....but not great. (The 4.7 L V8 would be better imo.) It feels sluggish up hills and towing will feel worse. I believe the manual says 5k lbs. towing limit.
The 2020 has the 8'' touch screen with the android auto, apple carplay, bluetooth, alexa capable etc. The base model has 8 speakers. If you get the premium audio, you also get maps, and additional speakers...16 speakers????
If you get a 2010-2019, you get the infotainment system that everyone complains about (and will have to upgrade.) my$.02

The infotainment im not so worried about. That's an easy upgrade. Considering that's about the only thing that changed in the last decade it seems like buying used and upgrading the unit is very cost effective.

Im not stuck on 35s. I definitely don't want to replace suspension I essentially paid for with the pro. Otherwise I'd just buy a SR5 premium. Im just looking for a mean stance. I finally got the wife to give a thumbs up when we saw one parked with what looked like a 2-3inch lift on KO2s.
