Rebuilding my 3.0, I want to relocate the oil filter. What is the best way to go?

Also, any thoughts on installing an electric fan?

They make an adapter to move the oil filter but honestly given the lack of space under there, I am not sure it would be all that beneficial. The adapter place should screw onto the block and then you will have oil hoses and such to route and an oil filter that now must be mounted in an already tight area. The electric fan wouldn't be a bad upgrade....imo.

20200630_205014[1].jpg I have placed my oil filter in the DS wheel well at the front. The oil lines run backward and just in front of the upper A-arm and into the block adapter. You will need to bend the inner fender sheet metal some to make a smooth path way for the oil lines to pass. I used two existing holes in the inner fender to secure the lines with the supplied insulated steel loops as they head toward the oil filter adapter. The filter is oriented as you see from the adapter and I used braided steel reinforced Ø 1/2" oil line by Gates or BFG. Be sure you double up on the hose clamps because these lines are getting the entire output directly from the oil pump and the kit supplies straight NPT/nipple adapters for the hose connections.

This Engine Oil Filter Remote Mounting Hyden 291 kit has all you need but you have to source your own hose as the kit has only the adapter castings, brass nipples, thread adapters for different oil filters, plugs for the ports you don't use and some tie wraps and clamps to secure the oil lines. If hose clamps and nipples are a bit under your requirements then AN-fittings and braided steel oil lines from Earls or else would be an alternative. While that is a bit or a pain in getting the hose, the castings in this kit exit the block at the adapter and enter the filter housing straight on so that this location in the wheel well has very direct routing with a single gradual 90° bend as the oil lines pass under the inner fenders sheet metal. I have a nice large Fram PH-8A oil filter presently installed and is about 2X the size of the OEM filter. Super easy to drive an awl or center punch into the filters housing to drain it when ready for replacing. Been running 20W-50 through this setup since the rebuild and have checked the hose clamps once since the initial oil change and all seems well seated with no weeping visible.

    Thanks for the praise.
See the form thread called "Need New Radiator Advice" for what I did in that area of the cooling system.
