    Hey Folks,
Had my bearing go, kept driving n got quite wobbly and finally lost acceleration. Today got down to check/change the bearing n hub assembly. The CV axle would not come out hitting with pry bar at the notch, the end is off the knuckle held secure from falling. When i tried pull n turn the CV end it just turns by itself, IS THAT NORMAL. Or did it disconnect from the rest of the axle. I cut the seal (was already open) & just took the end part out for pictures.

I'm not sure if this will answer your question, but the CV is separated into 2 halves. Half is still inside the differential housing, so that needs to come out.

My trick for pulling a CV Axle, is to pry on both sides. If you're just using one pry bar, you are side loading the C Clip, making it even more difficult to pull. I use a large flat head screw driver on one side, and a pry bar on the other; or, I've even used just two large flat heads before. Give just enough pressure on the screwdriver to even it. Usually comes out fairly easily without much fuss using this method.

They make a fork tool that would help you remove that. I had to use one to get my drivers side axle out. Pry bar wouldnt do it.

A slide hammer, axle flange and two vice grips. The slide hammer and axle flange are usually available at an auto parts store. Free rental. THe vice grips must be top quality or they will release every time you slide back, with force, the hammer. I used my 50 year old craftsman and purchased an Irwin. Irwin is not a good tool. Avoid!
