9005 to 9011HIR High Beam Mod

Has anyone tried the trick where you mod a 9011 halogen bulb to fit our 9005 high beam sockets?

Apparently it’s a much brighter bulb that runs at the same wattage as our oem bulb.

 

I have, did this in my 80 years ago and did it in the 4R. Doesn't match my HID low beam color but that is a don't care. Worth it IMO.

 

I did this the other week. its super easy and there is a really big difference in the light. looks great. used

I did the 9011 mod tonight. I’m certain the top is my old bulbs. I think the originals look better. Did I do something wrong?

 

There’s a long thread for the H11 to H9 (low beam) and 9005 to 9011 (high beam) conversions on the T4R.org forum. A highly recommended and effective mod. Try this inexpensive mod before spending $$$$ for HIDs or complete LED housings. (BTW, drop-in LED bulbs in our halogen housings are terrible). See posts 122 and 123 for the pictures for how to do it.
