My 2004 4runner has developed a warped head at 190k miles. I am trying to weigh all of my options on how to go about fixing the issue for the best longevity of the vehicle. I do my own mechanic work so labor costs are not an issue. However I am not 100% confident in my ability to rebuild the one side of the motor. A local shop quoted $4500 to do the rebuild.

I am looking at possibly buying another motor and throwing it in their instead. I have priced out v6s and v8s and it seems that the 2uz v8 is quite a bit cheaper, but obviously there would be added costs of ecu exhaust manifolds etc.

I am just looking for some opinions on what to do in this situation.

Curious, how much are the V8s?

Wow, that is very reasonable. Any idea what the manifolds and install would set you back? I need to do a swap or rebuild at some point.

That’s what I’m trying to figure out with this thread. Purchasing all of the supporting parts is what would make it not worth it (ecu, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, fuel rails, etc.). The same website that sells the v8 for $1000 has a similar mile use v6 for $2800
