    Hi,
After having my 2015 Trail 4Runner for 2 months, but only 700 miles, I just noticed the tires are P265-70R17 HT, not the M&S as shown on the Toyota website. It does have KDSS so I would think the vehicle would be set up for off-road.
Why would Toyota put on highway tires instead of AT or M&S?
Should I complain to Toyota or is it too late?
Or should I really care if it is M&S or HT?
    What do you think?

Hi there, I have a 15' TEP, mine came with the same tires as yours, that's the stock tire for the vehicle. The 4Runner TRD Pro comes with Nitto Terra Grapplers in a P rated tire (I believe it's P). Complaining won't do much good. In spite of their incredible capability out the door, the 4Runner TEs (and all 4runner's for that matter) are built to appease the mass population. I am at 1100 miles on mine and just replaced the tires with Cooper AT3s in stock size; I do mostly light overlanding and don't need anything significant for off-roading or rock crawling. (and the Cooper AT3s were voted best overland tire by Expedition Portal so I figured I'd give them a try. So far so good.

Honestly though, the OEM tires weren't horrible. I just made it through a really bad northern MD winter in varied terrain, and lots of rain, ice, and snow and I had no issues in any terrain or climate.

Part of the deal trading in my Wife's FJ Cruiser in for the 2014 TEP was we kept the General AT2s and they keep the OE tires. Makes no damn sense that a Trail not come with the same as the FJ TT's did.

Mine came with the HT tires as well and have used them in gravel, rocky areas and mud with no problems......hard to justify replacing them when they fit the bill but if you live in severe weather area my be a good reason to get new rims and the Coopers...lol..

I have a 2015 Trail Premium with KDSS that is preforming great. Knowing that I would want the best snow capabilities, I got an additional set of off road wheels for winter that are one inch wider than stock and installed my trusted friends from BF Goodrich All Terrain K0's, but this time the K02's with extra side wall tread. I stayed with the stock size tires, but the wider wheels make better use of the grip potential of the tires without affecting height and speedometer readings. They performed very well on rocky trails and mud.I have to wait until next winter to test them in the snow, however I'm sure they will be fine.

I bought my 2016 trail and came witht the pos dunlop tires toyota offers and they are horrible for sand, mud, and rock. What are some good tires for that terrain and still drive like street tires. I am changing to the trd pro rims which are the same size as stock so a tire that can come in that size and not be too big where i have to put a lift to prevent rubbing. I was thinking about the Michilans ATO2 (may have that wrong based off memory on what comes on tundra trd off road)

Really the 4runner trd pro rims are narrower, i was planning on useing oem tires for a little bit, to help the money standpoint, but i am glad someone told me toyota said they might fit
