New limited different than old?

Hi everyone, I currently have a 2014 4Runner Limited which I love but heading to 92k miles and I decided I wanted a brand new 4Runner and fell in love with the look of the Nightshade. However, I went to the dealership this past weekend thinking I was going to buy it bc why wouldn’t I love the Nightshade? But I didn’t! And I’m completely thrown off by that. I’m thinking I’ll go see a regular Limited but was wondering if anyone else had an experience like this? The Nightshade felt smaller, even though I compared the stats and I think it’s the same. My 2014 feels big and heavy, and the brand new felt light and small which for some reason I compared to being cheap? I’m totally disappointed bc it was a great deal but I didn’t love the car so I couldn’t bring myself to pull the trigger.

 

It’s the same truck. I think the interior feels smaller because of the black vs silver interior.

imho, 90k miles is not much. I sold my 4th gen limited with 250k miles and was solid as a rock. I have a ‘16 limited myself and it felt a bit old. I opted to change a few features to the trd. Now feels brand new. I’m going to hold out for the 6gen before a get a new runner.

 

I drove a nightshade for kicks right after a Pro and didnt like it. I think it was the large rims and low profile tire made it feel every bump and jolt. plus it didnt have any options better than the pro or any trd trim level.

 

Not a fan of the Limiteds, I work for Toyota and most people here don't like them. They're considered "momrunners". Not trying to diss anybody's rig, just sayin'. Now, older gen Limiteds are a different story.

 

Same trucks in almost every way. You may have some wear on your XREAS suspension that causes yours to feel a little different in the ride than a new one, but like someone else said, 92k for a 4runner is like graduating high school--most of your miles are in front of you and not behind you.

 

Anyone saying any 4Runner feels "big and heavy" hasn't ever driven anything big and heavy.


A 2014 and 2020 Limited/Nightshade are practically identical except for a few interior pieces(gauges, navigation), and the new TSS sensors which are basically invisible to most consumers anyway. Otherwise they have the same body, engine, transmission, suspension, wheels.... you get the idea. It's been the same truck since 2010.

I traded my 2016 LE for my 2019 NS a few months ago. I can definitely tell a difference in overall feel of the vehicle but in a good way. For some reason NS feels more solid, rides smoother, and quieter than my ‘16. It does have the 3rd row so my thought was maybe the increased weight may contribute to the ride and the seats may add some acoustic insulation but I don’t really know. No difference in feeling of interior space though.i only had about 15k miles difference between the two so not really much of a variance.

 

Limited as “momrunners” got a laugh out of that.

 

It worked to convince my wife to get one.

And this Mom runner has been taking us across the country and did some pretty decent off roading coming out of Arches NP

 

Very true I work at a Toyota dealership service center and I would say 95% of the Limiteds that come in for service are driven by Moms.

 

I'm sure, man, I bet its one comfy ride! My 4Runner was originally intended for my wife too, but she figured out that it was really mine pretty quick, she just drives whatever I don't drive.

 

Welcome to the site ! I understand the feeling with rising milage but the T4R's hold value and will still fetch some good coin with double your current readings. I'd hold the 14 a bit longer and see what direction Toyota goes with on the next gen.

 

I guess I get confused easily but is this a slight at women or at the Limited 4Runner? Because if I dated a girl that pulled up in a Limited 4R I wouldn't think she's some sort of Snowflake. Contrary, my interest would peak. I don't get this macho BS at all. I guess woman are suppose to drive minivans. Or, is it that the Limited is just a piece of shit only a woman would drive? Ha!

 

I wouldn't get my knickers in too much of a twist over the statement. I think it was just an observation about Limiteds coming in for service being mostly driven by women. Good for them. My wife wouldn't drive a 4R of any model. She thinks they're too big and bulky. Heck, every time I need to wash mine I feel the same way.

Around my city, I'd estimate 85% of all the 4Rs I see are driven by women...

 

Eh, i got a Limited because I wanted dual climate, heated/ ventilated seats and wanted to pay less than 40 k for my new car. The wonky approach angle, fugly front end will be gone when the warranty is, so who cares? Its a 4Runner, holds great value, it alot easier to mod than a DII, and much less expensive. Enjoy!

It's not a slight on women or at the Limiteds, they're just not for anything but road comfort. You have to change alot to get them off-road. They are designed with a specific consumer in mind, and that just so happens to be moms which isn't a negative, I'd rather see moms in 4Runners than other unreliable crap cans. Also, moms like bling, they wanna roll up on 20's with their Pandora charms jingling while flashing their Vera Bradley bags.

 

I wouldn't mind if you were my mom. Also, you don't need to stop to put it into 4WD, just slap that shit in at speed. And I'm right there with you on the 3rd gens, that's what I'd have if my wife wasn't absolutely against anything older than 10 years.

 

My first 4x4 was a 1985 Silverado K10, I think you had to put it into reverse to engage or disengage the 4x4 lol.

 

I think you're too focused on the mom aspect. My wife is a mom but didn't want to be categorized as THAT kinda mom, the soccer mom, that is why she didn't want a Limited, cause of that connotation. Not that being a soccer mom is bad and not all Limiteds are driven by them. This is just a joke similar to the "all lesbians drive subarus" joke, its a gag generalization.

My 1st real 4x was a 1984 SR-5 SB w/22 r engine, (carb!) solid front, 5 speed, manual hubs, I paid just under 10 grand for that baby. Had to haul it out of many, many creek beds in northern AR. She was a blast!

 

I think MOST moms are driving Rav-4's and Honda CR_v's......... now, the RICH moms are driving the Limiteds , Tahoes/suburbans/escalades/range rovers. I see this all the time. dont need to work at a dealership. Just people watch at the mall or local Starbucks!
