I'm considering an engine/ transmission rebuild for my 05, I have a reputable shop that specializes in Toyotas that I am going to use. I'm interested in problems, and or further issues had after the rebuild.

If it’s a reputable toyota shop, what problems/issues??

I had the head gaskets done on my 05. All was good after.

None hopefully. Just throwing this out to the group to be prepared for any issues, and or suggestions going into my project.

A lot of guys on here refer to dealerships as stealerships, I’m sure with good reason. Not everyone has the same moral code or values. Not matter who does it, someone has to get in there with knowledge, experience and skill to do it. That person doesn’t necessarily work at a dealership, but if they do, that’s still the person you want.

There is a Yota Pros in my area that I have researched.

Sounds like you have done your homework. In principal it seems like the trans rebuild should be straightforward. Are they rebuilding your transmission, or selling you a rebuilt unit?

Are they replacing the hydraulic control system entirely or only selected components (valves, o-rings, springs)?

Does the 4Runner transmission have a dedicated electronic control module? If yes, are they replacing it or reusing your original unit?

I haven’t gotten that far into my project yet. I plan to visit with the shop to plan out details and timelines for completion.
