    No. Hilux is the rest of the worlds version of the Tacoma, they are different trucks and aimed at different markets.

    Not sure where you heard this, but that's not true.
    Maybe the ways in which they're designed / features / structures, but it's not possible to fully share a platform between two completely different sizes (widths and wheelbases).

    ah, yeah I think the word "underpinning" is a little misleading / unclear. I'm sure they may have similar components as Toyota is moving to "TNGA - Global Architecture" but no way they're the 'same'. You can infer from that article, though, that similarly sized vehicles across the world may share the same platform, though.

    Simply put, all the body on frame vehicles from Toyota will share a frame design that will be tweaked to accommodate different vehicle sizes.
