What maintenance should I do on a 100k 2007 with unknown maintenance history?

Just purchased a 2007 4Runner SR5 4x4 with a 103,XXX miles. I have no idea if the previous owner did the maintenance for the big 100k miles. Should I flush the oil and transmission? Should I change the timing belt and the water pump ? The truck runs great and no issues at all. Looking for some advice

 

I'd try to find out if that timing belt was done if it's a V8.

Oil is cheap, I'd go for it. Transmission fluid likely never changed, I think you might want to do that eventually (around the 150K mile marker at least).

Check the trailer receiver hitch inside for a lot of rust, that would suggest occasional towing. If you believe it was used extensively for towing, trans fluid is a good idea. Otherwise, I'd do it when you can afford it.

Check all fluids, most aren't expensive to replace.

 

Should I do a flush or just just dropping the pans ?

 

Oil - normal.

Trans, pay someone to do it. It's not cheap but if you're not familiar with it, pay for the service. If you want to do it yourself, drain and refill a time or two to get you to the point where you'd get the full trans service done.

 

Fluids are relatively inexpensive and at least give you a starting date in your maintenance book.

 

Change all fluids.

 

I just bought an 05 with 102k I changed all the fluids. Doing the transmission when it warms up. Did all filters also and plugs. I typically baseline every used car I get. I would recommend the same.

 

JXL0773 [OP] Pretty sure you have a timing chain. I wouldn't look for a belt as the V6 4runners have the chain. The V8 has the belt.

Don't flush the tranny. You are using WS, so take it to a dealer and let them do a drain and fill(5 quarts). Call a dealer and tell them you have a 2007 V6.

Oil change with filter every 5000 miles with conventional is what I would do.

Finally, when you get the info written down, call a good maintenance shop and you'll save a few hundred.

Rear differential is easy D/F with Valvoline 80W 90 gear. Takes 20 minutes and you don't need the jack. I use conventional and re D/F every 70,000 miles. Check OM for proper weight

Take it to an alignment shop if you have front end questions. Lower arms (bushings) and sway bars went in my 2005.

This "kit" comes with wheel bearing assembly, but don't replace them until you get a failure - then just the one that failed. I got 150,000 miles on my 4runner and lost one WB at 120,000.

I'm in a similar situation. The Toyota owners site has records from Toyota dealerships. You sign up with your Vin and it gets you a history of your car but with Toyota. I saw recent repairs of the left CV axle last year and I was able to see all maintenance records. The only record I could not find is the Timing belt but they used an independent shop and have the records. Its free to sign up and gives you a cool history and Specs on your 4runner

 

At a 100K with no idea of service records I would do all fluids including transmission flush. Serpentine belt, air filter, thermostat and coolant and radiator hoses and radiator cap and spark plugs. Maybe even do DIY brake fluid flush if fluid looks dark. If it's a V8 have the dealer do the timing belt. Find a dealer who can give you 20% off parts. I just did most of this stuff to my daughters 2008 Sport V8 before her last trip back to college. Hers was at 122K. We actually did the timing belt the year before at 112K.
