Hey! New member here from TN. Posting on my wife's behalf since I've now gotten bored with my own truck so I've humbly taken it upon myself to begin mods on her '13 4Runner SR5.

I recently put a Pro Comp Nitro leveling kit on her truck. Looking to install running boards. I snatched a couple of 2018 TRD OEM boards that Toyota claims are the same part number as the running boards that are supposed to fit my 2013 SR5.

Anyhow I'm wondering if anyone has done this/if anyone can tell me how to remove the "exterior rocker-panel molding"? Seems like that might be the first step in getting some new running boards on...maybe not?

2010-2020 is the same truck, minus cosmetic appearance/tech differences. You should be good. Welcome!

I don’t think you need to remove the rocker panels. They bolt on right underneath.

The earlier SR5s had rocker panels similar to the current Limited that need to be removed for most steps and/or rock rails (the current oem steps use the same bolt hole locations as the Limited & earlier SR5 trim panels). There are youtube videos of the swap out, like the video above.

Limited and ‘10-‘13 rockers hang lower then 2014+. So unless you have rockers specific for limited or ‘10-‘13, you’ll need to remove the rockers before installing sliders, steps or running boards.

Exactly what he said. There is a company that does sell sliders for the Limited and 10-13 SR5/Limited but me personally I would remove the rockers and install the 2014+ trail rockers and it then opens so many more options in terms of sliders/DSC06152.jpg running boards. I have a 2013 Limited and I had to remove my Limited rockers in order for the TRD running boards to fit.

I have a 2013 SR5 2WD. It did not come with running boards. I bought a factory pair for a 2010-2022. So we have to take the rocker panel off to install? Aside from the boards, brackets, and bolts, do I need any other parts?
