Gibson Exhaust - Rattle on Crossmember Help!

OK guys just installed the Gibson Cat back exhaust on my wife 2020 TRD Off Road. Well as some people on here have said I have a rattle where the exhaust goes over the crossmember. I have tried turning and twisting the exhaust everyday I can to keep it from hitting. I thought I had it fixed, test drove it 20 minutes and it sounded great. Backing into the garage the rattle came back.

Any ideas of what I could try to make the exhaust work? I was thinking maybe some type of rubber between it and the cross member but not sure what I could use that won't melt from the heat.

If I can't fix it, i'll have to remove the exhaust and go back to the stock setup..... any help would be great!

You might need to adjust a hanger, at the most you could take it to a shop and have a new hanger welded in.

 

Thanks I'll try that. I might try wrapping that section with exhaust wrap and see if that helps

 

I don’t really like the wrap, it holds moisture, and will rust or corrode under it.

 

I had the same issue. It's just a matter of adjusting the hangers (sliding them forward or back) until you get rid of the rattle. When the engine shifts under load, the piping, I've found, shifts rearward against the crossmember. If you can slide it full forward, it should help.

 

Thanks guys. Played with it more this morningight have helped some. I also wrapped just the area over the cross member with some exhaust wrap. I'll drive it more tonight and see how it goes

 

So the wrap helped alot but still get a rattle every now and then. Wish I could find out where

 

I would have your wife (if you trust her) get in the car and shift from P to D to N to R and back again until you can see where it's hitting on the frame. $1000 says its the rear that the exit pipe runs over top. It's just going to take finagling to make it not touch anymore.

 

Heat shield expanding when hot. Need to tweek pipe position.

 

I would take it to a muffler shop and be done with it, even if it cost you $40.00 it would be worth it because it will keep coming back to haunt you.

 

Just installed one on my 19 orp and had similar issue. Installed it in garage on ramps, needed to get it on a lift to actually adjust and tighten it enough to stop the rattle. $50 later and a thanks to my mechanic for letting me use his lift and better tools and it’s been fine for over 500mi. Seems like a silly thing, but make sure all the pieces are fully inserted into each other. I “thought” they were but found out once on lift that they were not as tight into each other as they should have been to get proper fit.
