Hey guys, here's an official thread for the Dobinsons rear drawers that go into a 5th Gen 4Runner. These have been around for about 3 years now, but I've never put a dedicated thread together for them here.

Here are a few quick Q&A that people always ask.

    • Yes, you can get the drawers only without the side wing panels
    • They are only intended for a standard model without 3rd row seats
    • 3rd row seats actually have a different floor, so a custom frame would be needed
    • Works fine with OE sliding floor once it has been removed
    • The sliding fridge latch was updated in early 2019 - uses the same as a regular fridge slide now
    • Only the left side can slide, you can't change it to the other side
    • The carpet is a dark grey or black with light speckles throughout. It appears different in different light
    • These have to ship by truck freight on a pallet so they don't get damaged
    • The drawers come fully assembled, but the stops that hold the drawers into the outer case aren't installed until the very last step. Be careful when you first get them, the drawer will come all the way out!!!
    • All standard replacement parts are readily available if needed
    • The drawers each slide out about 2/3 their length. They can't come out 100% due to the leverage it would make against the main cabinet and the mounting bolts

Here are the standard list of specs that apply.
    • 1.6mm Zinc Plated Robust Steel Construction, 12mm Heavy Duty Plywood tops
    • Panels with Marine Carpet Covering
    • Built-in Heavy-Duty Fridge Slide, 8 x Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Tie Down Points
    • Comprehensive outer wing trim kit to provide a factory fit.
    • Installation of drawers REQUIRES drilling and bolting through floor. Any existing sliding deck must be removed prior to drawer installation.
    • Aluminum Edging Protection, Heavy duty lockable latches. Sliding portion is not changeable from one side to the other.
    • Not compatible with 3rd row seat installed.
    • Massive 150KG (330LB) Drawer Capacity on Heavy Duty Roller Bearing System
    • Shipping is to the nearest Freight Terminal or to a Commercial address with a loading dock or forklift. Residential delivery adds additional separate costs

So the drawers are part number RD80-1001. Those can be ordered here without any side wing panels if you don't want to mess with those. Dobinsons 4th and 5th Gen 4Runner rear drawers only

The wing panels do add some cost to the full kit. The full kit can be ordered here: Dobinsons Drawers for 5th Gen 4Runner - Full Kit

If you don't add the side wing panels, the drawers can actually sit lower. Due to the high side plastic inner fender pieces, the drawers get raised up with spacers provided with the wing kit to clear those side panels. In my opinion, I prefer it without the panels, but you can order it whichever way you prefer.

Instructions on how to install these in a 5th Gen 4Runner are here: 4Runner Drawer Installation Guide

Some have tried to use turnbuckles from the floor up to points they have attached to the drawer sides, but if you bend out the drawer sides, you can change the tolerances and cause the drawers to have movement inside the outer cabinet. That's not a good idea. The drawers are closed extremely tightly, and require them to be slammed shut. This prevents any noises from coming from them.

I'll attach whatever photos I have saved of them from installs. If you own these already, please add your photos to the thread with any tips and tricks you figured out along the way or during the install.

An old thread but I place an order for the Dobinson drawers last night.
None of you'd remember but I was the guy on the way to pick up a jeep and suddenly took a right turn and ended up with a 4R.
I knew there were gabillions of options for modding the Wranglers but turns out there are a million for the 4R.
When it came to drawers for the cargo area like many I entertained building my own....then realized that would require things I'm not
certified in like picking up any tool. So I studied the pre-fab units.
Like everything drawer choices are a compromise but the Dobs have the looks, are semi-affordable, have the function/strength/etc.
The compromise will be reaching into the ARB...nice a slide is provided but for example compare to the ARBs where you can choose one side
of the drawer duo to be much lower in height. That's OK we have a campervan for real frig use so when it gets moved into the Toyota we'll
just deal with it and have a step stool handy.
I've got three 'big' items on order. The Bajarack, the Victory bumper and now the drawers. I bet the drawers get here before anything else.
