Can you have the rack without bikes on it in the up diagonal position and still open the tailgate? I am debating getting a single or double to start, I want to be able to open the tailgate without messing with the rack all the time.
    Thanks

if you mean in up position no you can't ,but the racks are really easy to shift from Vertical to Horizontal position so no need to worry about it. I have Kuat rack and it has kick plate that can be used to change positions.

Jack - We're looking at the NV 2.0 as well. Would you mind sharing any images with 4 bikes on the back of the 4R. If possible a side view to see how far the rack extends from the rear of the vehicle.

They were known as BikeTite. I had this since 2000. I believe there is another company that makes something similar.

Sorry for the late reply - been on the road! So I'm getting ready to convert it back to 4 bikes (had it set up for just 2). Will snap a couple of pix tonight and share asap.

My tandem Fat Bike goes on the roof, anything else rides on the same 1Up rack that I have had for 8 years.

I can fit my XL 29er in the back of my 4runner with both seats down. I mainly ride by myself or meet buddies at the trails these days.

Another for the OneUp. I need to get an updated pic with it on the 5th gen. Default is INSIDE. In the ole 3rd gen I used a 2x6 with the thru axle mount, but I'll probably get a multi T-track for the 5th gen. I like it inside whenever possible, but those days I ride and need to haul things or camp I use the OneUp.

Powertec T-track (wood working tool accessories for saw/router/etc tables), you can get their bolt with wingnuts to attach your axle mount of choice.

If anyone cares for my t-track reasoning...easily allows for staggering fork mounts for multiple bikes.

Reviving this thread because I just put an order in on a mountain bike.

Has anyone tried to transport them like the guys with truck beds?

Roll down the rear window, throw one of those tail gate pads on and go along your merry way like this..........or is there not enough room?

I feel like I tried this and you could do one, if you pull the seat off (hits the ceiling). Two is a little janky to get situated through the open window with one already in.

Both great points. Thanks for the input @MeefZah and @alittleoff !

I only have one bike to carry at the moment so I might be able to get away with it........if it fits.

But I'll have to find a solution that doesn't cover the plate.

I would prefer this set-up as opposed to having to buy a trailer hitch bike carrier as well.

The goddamn mountain bike is expensive enough as it is :annoyed:

I'm getting an Ibis Mojo HD5. It's a size medium with 27.5" wheels.

Nice bike. I carry my 27.5 Yeti in the back on an old BikeTite rail w/fork clamp. As long as you have a dropper post. I would

Man yall have some nice bikes. Mine is a 26 year old Specialized Rockhopper comp. No sense upgrading since all of our measly trails were closed due to Hurricane Florence 2 years ago with no plans to reopen them.

It is pretty crazy how expensive full suspension mountain bikes are. I've been saving up for this one for a while now.

I'm lucky to live in an area to take full advantage of these types of bikes though. This will be my local trail:

Lower end full suspension bikes are around $3k while the upper end bikes are $10k.

This one got really good reviews from multiple sources and came in at $4.4k.......so lower/middle of the road as full suspension mountain bikes tend to go.

I'm not one of those guys that will be trading it in every year for the latest and greatest. I'm on the 5 year plan with this one.......at least.

Awesome bike and sweet mounting system @Johnrg !

Yeti was definitely on my list of bikes to consider.

In the end, I went with a local company to me.

Any other bikes you've like over the years? Ever try a YT?

    No judgement here man.

I respect the guys and girls rocking the old school hard tails up and down the trail.

We're all out there just to have fun anyways.

    Even has fenders....
I just throw it in back to ride the trout stream...

It is, although there are plenty of aluminum frames that approach (and exceed) that price level if you upgrade the components. This bike is an aluminum frame and can easily be $5,000 with a few upgrades.
