I agree and I never owned a Tundra. The F150 is tempting but deep down I know I just could not bring myself to buy or own one. I am a diehard Toyota reliability fanboy. None of their vehicles are ultra modern but they all have what they need and are rock solid. Other manufacturers can keep all their super modern technologies (outside of safety) I prefer the simpler.

It’s all in the fanboy stuff. I was in a Ford family growing up, my brother has an ‘08 F150 that he bought new that has had nothing but routing maintenance and he tows a pontoon boat, has just about 200k on it now. Same with a few other family members. My father in law has an ‘07 Tundra that he had to put a starter in, and that’s it for his 200k miles.

I really liked my ‘12 Tundra Crew, but didn’t need the size and basically was only using the bed to haul hockey gear around. Doesn’t mean I don’t still thinking of getting another one some time!

No big mods planned for now besides bed bars so I can get the tent on there and figure out a way to get the fridge inside. Other than that will probably stay stock for a while. This thing is a beast. Was looking at getting tires immediately like I did on the 4 but the Tundra comes with Michelin LTX's. Pretty nice tires despite not being too off road friendly. An yeah it has been a long time since having a truck and it is good time to buy.

Our next vehicle will likely be a Mad Max kind of truck, especially after this latest accident. Gonna build something with an exo-skeleton so if they try and mate with us again, they get torn the hell up! :burnrubber:

They’re classed as a class 3 commercial vehicle so they can avoid providing air bags. It’s hard to believe they’ve gotten this far, but once a few are involved in serious collisions and a few people die, someone will ask why these things were allowed on the road.

    Ah, interesting tidbit Oldtoyotaguy.

That's an interesting loophole for them to jump through. I wonder why they chose that path? You would think they could afford putting an airbag in there for a $125,000 price tag. I guess it didn't fit their aesthetic.

    Thanks for the info

I think they just didn't want the hassle, and wanted to get a Defender style vehicle to consumers ASAP. Mostly the off road crowd doesn't perceive air bags as a big deal. Lets face it, most of us will never need them and they add $000's to vehicle costs and there's a huge knowledge component to engineer them that we just take for granted. A big part of my decision on the 4 Runner, though, was its 8 air bags. The salesman didn't even know it had knee air bags until I told him, haha.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that old style ladder frame that Bollinger uses isn't state of the art either. Sure its ok, and I hope I'm wrong, but it doesnt even come close to the massive strength designed into the exoskeleton of the Cybertruck. But then, Tesla always blows the doors off its safety tests. They're probably overall the safest manufacturer out there with a strong culture of safety beyond anyone else, even Mercedes.
Toyota could be there too, but they're a mid level manufacturer, and at their price point they don't extend themselves as far as they could.

A few. Ordered a RCI bed rack to get the tent and an awning mounted on. Then I am trying to figure out a way to get the fridge mounted inside the cab. Hope to just enjoy it after that.

Back a bit I was looking to buy a full size and the tundra was the truck for me. Didnt want a chevy again, same for ford (had a bronco). I looked at a used tundra, forget the year, it was four door and had a weird way to fold the rear seat down. Hated it, but think they have since changed.

SO I gave ford a shot and looked at an 09. Now I know why the f150 is the best selling truck for, what, 40 years? Ride quality, power, sound system, and how the back seat folds up and out of the way. It's a smart set up truck.

Will it last like a tundra? Well I have had great luck with mine, just oil and filters. Bought in 2012, nothing but good luck. But if one checks out the components of a tundra vs f150 or any other half ton model, the tundra is just a beast by comparison. Unless the competition has caught up last I checked it's not even close. Tundra is built like a 3/4 ton rig and then some.

As far as battery powered vehicles. Meh, they are great for city driving or short jaunts but until battery tech changes there are just to many problems with them. They need to be able to get to a full charge as fast as an ICE vehicle. Until that changes.....

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
An urn to hold my ashes. I'm almost 67 years old and my 4Runner is just a year old. I'm pretty sure it will out last me!

    Probably a coffin.

I really don't see myself outliving my Runner. It's two years old with 11,000 miles. 5,000 miles a year times 40 years would only be 200,000 miles and just barely broken in. If I make it another 40 years I will be a VERY old man.

Of course this assumes we will still be able to purchase gasoline and oil in the next 20-40 years.

I was going to buy a new Defender, I placed an order and gave the dealer a deposit. Then, I had second thoughts and decided that for the remote places I wanted to travel, I already had the most reliable vehicle in the world. I cancelled the order and the dealer gave me my deposit back.

Probably the next gen Land Cruiser or GX. Return the 4Runner back mostly to stock setup minus the suspension and tires for daily duties. Downgrade the Kings to Dobinson and LT tires to P-rated. Rock sliders would stay for door dings during mall crawling days

Who doesn't love a Shelby Mustang? I wrote a song about it - just check out Apple Music under Same Latitude As Rome, CD Title Stay the Course, I think its song 3, "Blue Shelby Mustang". Its a true story about a young guy who buys a salvage Shelby at an auction and rebuilds it. Enjoy!
