Please excuse what's probably a silly question. I'm a senior (not talking about school) woman with my first 4 wheel drive.

Is there something I can't see where the top bolts to the cab that would prevent the roof from squashing me if I rolled over?
The only bar I see is installed where it would protect passengers in the back seat.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I've never rolled mine, thank goodness, but I've read about some others who have. Yes the roll bar integral to the 4Runner looks like it's only for the passengers in the back seat, but everything I've read said it protected the driver pretty well. The shell destroys pretty easily, being Fiberglass, but I'd rather worry about getting a new cover of some kind for the back, than worry about healing myself after being squashed in a roll over!

All this is, of course, purely anecdotal. Just things I've read on other Toyota forums, but the best I can do. I'm NOT going out and rolling MY Runner to test it out :burnrubber:

Have fun! You've got a real good, reliable, and fun, truck. Keep up the maintenance, and it will last you forever! Just don't roll it :D

It's a 35 yr old mess that I just can't get enough of.
A little muddy right now but here it is.

It's a standard 5 speed that hates being in 4th or 5th gear.
    The top comes off.
The only thing that's power is the back window.
The nice things it did come with have all been removed. (Like heat, a/c, power steering...the parking brake!)

But I've always loved learning how to do things and this vehicle has had me doing that since before I even brought it home.

I'm hoping to keep all 4 wheels on the ground all the time.
I just started wondering about it last week when a friend and I were on Saddle Mtn.
I think the road we took was more intended for ATVs.
By the time I started second guessing my bright idea of going up, I discovered I'd committed myself to going all the way unless I wanted to try going back down in reverse.
My friend got out and guided me over some scary spots on the way up, but it was going down that brought to mind the question I posted.

Is that outside Phoenix? If I may ask, of course.

I spent nearly 30 years in Yuma. Honestly, I hated the desert. But there was a great place for 4 wheelin' nearby. Just outside Glamis, where people go to run sand dunes in whatever they've got that'll run them. ATC's street 4WD's, like my Runner, super sand dragsters, you name it.
Anywho, near to all that is a place called TuMCo, short for what used to be the Tuscon Mining Company. Little, un-maintained, roads all through the area, not a bit of pavement. And abandoned mines, just holes in the ground, some vertical, some at an angle, that you can hike down into, deep underground. Still some real nice veins of turquoise down there, if you spend the time to search.
Really fun, running some of the roads, up hills, around the side of hills, straight up 45° angles, you name it. No one hardly ever goes out there, either. Definately need to have a friend along in some places for a guide, and some places you can really haul. I had the most fun I ever had in the desert out there.

Not counting going over to El Centro to watch the Blue Angels practise. :D

Anywho, keep the truck dirty, and keep having fun learning about it. I've had mine almost 30 years now, and I'm still learning both of them :)
