    Hey All,

    New to the boards. I have owned a 2004 2.4 SR5 2WD Tacoma for 10 years and a 2017 4Runner (DD) for 3 years.

I am considering buying a 1988 4Runner as a DD I wanted to hear everybody's thought is on the reliability of what I can get out of this truck and what price point I should be negotiating around. I plan on keeping the truck until the wheels fall off because that's what Toyotas are known for.
What should I be looking for on the Carb conversion to make sure it was done right?

Seems a little fishy. I wouldn’t trust the mileage. A “DLX” model would not have had a tachometer. Also by 88, the carbureted 22r (I believe) would have been a rare option versus the 3VZE or 22re. The sr5 stripes are correct for year but not dlx model. If it is in fact an sr5 model it definitely would not have had a carbureted 22r.

    like I said. Seems fishy.

In the description it says it was a 22RE that was converted to Carbureted. I guess some guys do this?

The information about the Tachometer not being standard in a DLX model though

I missed that re to carbureted in the description. This leads me to think more negatively about the gauge cluster and true mileage. It’s very unlikely at only 118k miles someone would need to negate the fuel injection.

Good information to know thanks for the help. Doesnt sound like I will be able to work a deal with the seller he is asking $10500 which I believe is way to much.

And knowing the mileage may be way off would definitely make me iffy espically since that is a conversion.

Anyways in the market for 1st, 2nd, 3rd gens as a DD.

That’s a 10k 4Runner all day if it didn’t have those weird things going on.
