It may be other vehicles too, but I noticed it when I was looking for an Intake on a dealer's website.

It reads "The TRD Performance Intake may not be sold to the customer at the same time as the new vehicle and may not be financed together with the new vehicle."

    Why?

You can still buy it just cannot buy it or finance it when you buy the 4Runner. Go in the next day and buy it or search online for a cheaper price.

Obviously. But WHY? I don't agree it's so they make more money, because quite frankly, they could charge full price + installation if they wanted.

There has to be a different reason.

Probably because there would be a lot of instances where dealers would just be throwing them in as part of the deal and Toyota would end up giving a bunch away.

Why not just finance your truck and put the CAI on your credit card?

Truth be told, I'm paying cash so money is not at issue. Could I install it myself? Of course. Could I bring it back in at a later date and have it installed? Sure. But I find both inconvenient and would just like to have it already installed when I take delivery.

It has got to be an mileage issue. They don’t want to sell you a car that doesn’t match the sticker or encourage anything that would lower the published mileage.

Now that's interesting and definitely a possible reason. Thank you.

Too many mods and too much money
Mileage numbers and the EPA. Imports pay a heavy price for the guzzler tax. Appearance pkgs sell a lot these trucks for them too. And you can't see an intake in most car ads.

Problem solved, send me your cash and I'll have your runner delivered with the intake. Want it lifted or anything else?

Let me give you a hypothetical....

A couple of weeks prior to taking delivery you call the service department and schedule an appointment for your new vehicle. The day you buy/pick up your truck, you walk over to the parts department and buy a CAI. Put it on the front seat of your new purchase and drive it around to the service department for your installation appointment.

Is there anything preventing you from doing this?

Prob something to do with noise emissions. And that’s why the TRD exhaust is sold separately...

Oya that’s right. Still the stock intake is baffled and has chambers to quite it down. TRD exhaust must be legal....
And the intake may cause a lean condition causing higher NOX emmisions?
