4th Gen v8 Resonator Question

Hey all,

I recently bought my 2005 4th gen limited 4runner. I absolutely love the sound of the engine so I went ahead and bought a new muffler (magnaflow 8 something) and still love the sound.

Has anyone deleted the resonator near the exhaust tip? I was thinking about doing it for looks, because I think it looks hideous.. but was worried about the sound. Is it extremely loud? And does it drone horribly?

I was just going to delete it and put a straight pipe or a side pipe with a tip. Any information is helpful, Thanks!

 

I had an '03 V8, and eventually installed a Gibson Cat back. I didn't think I wanted the Gibson muffler, so I put in a Magnaflow and a short extension to make it fit the Gibson exhaust system.

I HATED the truck after this. Eventually I put the Gibson muffler in and it was a little better. Then, I installed a resonator tip, and it was better, but still annoying on the freeway.

If you remove the resonator, hang on to it and go for a road trip. You might find that you want to reinstall it. If not, you can always chuck it later on.

I really like the sound now but I only get sound during low speeds, and at low rpm. But I won't go deleting it now, thanks for the info!

 

You're welcome! I hadn't realized how nice a quiet exhaust was until I changed it. I'm sure there are some who like a little drone, though.
