I have a 5th gen 4 runner and sometimes whenever i have to brake hard for whatever reason, the car brakes normally but then the transmission roughly shifts back into gear, sometimes worse than others. Recently, the transmission was acting up for the whole ride after braking for deer, not up shifting or downshift unless i manually did it, and i pushed it to 5k rpms. Anyone else have this issue to the smallest or largest extent? It is now normal after turning the car off, but i don’t know if I’m doing lasting damage to the transmission or any other components

How many miles and have you checked your fluid level lately? If you have the issue again, take it to the dealer. Should still be under warranty.

Did you have any luck figuring out the issue? I have had same issue for a while. Assuming it is something with the trans, but definitely no expert. Have 60k miles, and noticed it a while ago. Luckily I don’t do a lot of city driving so don’t have to brake hard a lot.
